Not saying these guys are candidates, but I'm throwing out some names that people really haven't talked about.

Keith Butler LB Coach, Pittsburgh Steelers- Butler is the man who helped develop James Harrison, Larry Foote, Lawrence Timmons, and LaMarr Woodley. James Farrior has also had his best seasons with Butler as his coach. Butler has been learning Dick LeBeau's defense. If he gets the chance to be a DC the only reason I don't see him taking it is because he'd be the favorite to take over for LeBeau

Mike Trgovac DL Coach, Green Bay Packers- Trgovac was a very successful DC in Carolina, and has spent time under Jim Johnson in Philly. Trgovac is a very good DL coach that has experience both in the 3-4, and 4-3 and has some attacking schemes. Worked with Sparano in Washington

Reggie Herring LB Coach, Dallas Cowboys- While in Houston during their early years, he was their LB coach and coached Jaime Sharper to 2 very good seasons including Sharper leading the league in tackles in 03. Left to become DC at NC State where in 1 year the Wolfpack went from 89th in defense to first overall. Went to Arkansas and was a finalist for the Frank Broyles award. In his first year as the Dallas LB coach, Anthony Spencer and Bobby Carpenter have finally started living up to their potential.

Mark Carrier DB Coach, Baltimore Ravens- Former all-pro safety, has been the DB coach in Baltimore since 2006. Has learned under Rex Ryan.

Probably others out there, but these are some names that caught my eye.

we cant have someone who hasnt coached with bill parcells.

and that is why we are going to just slam in al [groan] groh
instead of getting an up and comer, youjng, hungry coach
who is well schooled by a big time, inovative d coordinator.

wanna shake up this division? go hire ROB RYAN!! think that
wont throw some sparks into the division with his brother rex
coaching in new york? the shemes would be flying around as
fast as both brothers pens can write them out.

but no, we will re tread good ol sleep al groh who has been FIRED
from every position, college or nfl.

because bill has coached with him.

not everybody on our staff has worked with Parcells. Todd Bowles did, but he and Tony worked together in Cleveland. Jon Bonamego and Tony were in Jacksonville together, same with former OL coach Mike Maser.

The only coaches that are were on last year's staff that coached under Parcells before are Todd Bowles, Kacey Rodgers, Paul Pasqualoni, David Lee, and Dan Hennig. 5 Assistants out of the 17 we had last year. BUT as I mentioned, Bowles and Sparano worked together before Dallas.

Very good list of prospects beyond the usual Friends of Bill.

I think we can scratch Carrier and Herring off the list just because their teams are still in the playoffs, and this front office would prefer to move quickly.

Butler and Trgovac are good candidates, but I think their teams will block interview requests, presuming we ask permission in the first place. Their own teams are probably eying them as DC candidates when the current guys leave.

Ultimately, we're probably looking at guys like Groh and Crennel because they're seen as plug-and-play coaches: they know the system, they know what's expected, they can hit the ground running, and they're perceived to be reliable. People prefer known quantities over unknown quantities.

I like the idea of both Butler and Trgovac.

As opposed to Bowles with our secondary, there has been a vast improvement and what I believe the best LB play in NFL bar none from the Steelers.

I like the option of Trgovac also. Having experience of both the 4/3 n 3/4 he would come in with no pre-conceived idea of a base 3/4. It would be what best fits the players available.

Good Post

Im going to throw another name into the pot:

Pepper Johnson, NE, defensive Line and previously Lb coach.

Was drafted by Parcells and has worked under Parcells and mainly Bill B most of his time in NFL. When you look at knowing a system and NE defensive line play over last few years I think it would be good shout.

Keith Butler is the most interesting name on that list (for my money). I'd be very interested in seeing what he has to offer.

I like this candidate very much, also to debunk the myth the only guys getting hired are friends of bill, they just hired Bill Sheridan as LB coach so Im not certain its gonna be a good 'ol boys network.

Also the fact that no hire has taken place leds me to believe there guy may still be coaching....as we now know Zimmer is off the market, Crennell is KC bound & Groh is still waiting in the wings,my guess as the fall back candidate.

So maybe we should be looking at the remaining teams and see who there is a possiability which gives some creedence to the name Reggie Herring

Chambers my man credit needs to be given where credit is do. You listed Kevin Butler as ur top choice and check who our first interview is. Excellent analysis & post. This thread should be listed as a top 5.
