Josey Jewell of Iowa I’m barely into these cut ups of his and I can already tell that he has a feel for the position that I like. Iowa is lb u they are coached up they are nfl ready and this kids just another one

If we moved Raekwon to strong and put this kid at mike I’d be ok with it as a top 75 pick. Doesn’t have Raekwon’s poa. He doesn’t have great range but his instincts help offset some of it. I can hide his range and carry cover most at mike weak does not look to be an nfl option.

Jewell will be on my list of lbs. someone is gonna get him and he’s gonna play solid 2 down football or first man up in the 2 deep or even in game emergency nickel mike for them.

Iowa lbs routinely out play their draft status.

This isn’t an upside play this is just a quality lb add one

I'm not really anti- Scarborough as much pro more than a dozen backs ahead of him. I think I would have taken LJ Scott over Scarborough if Scott hadn't recently opted to return to school. Scarborough is big kid, but his running style doesn't make the most of his size. I think most 5'11 220 pound back provide more power to their runs than the 235/240 pound Scarborough.

Yeah I just feel like I can do something else. Originally I thought 4th round now I’m just like nah there’s got to be better options

True. Especially considering there will be a good number of decent rookie running back options so there could be some veteran backs available at a decent price. I still like the though of pairing Drake with Carlos Hyde, if the price is righ, and drafting a back in the later rounds.

Jewells lb instincts are the best I’ve seen in the class so far

Not range not athlete but instincts and feel for the position.

However must be said that a nickel pairing of Kiko and Raekwon and Jewell in tbe perimeter field range and cover is going to be a problem

So I’m not advocating that as the fix.

But if you add a say derwin James well hmmm

click on the link to see video of him. Not sure he's the best tackler but he's around the football and he should be there at 73

p.s. He could be there at 107 but that's not a sure thing at all

Sounds like legit 15 talent. I was big Dan of Hooker. Sounds like Eliot is sort of a Hooker/Adams combo.

Jewell reminds me of aj Klein but with a little bit better instincts maybe slightly less at the poa coming out

If I can get that in the 4th round and I hadn’t added a lb either in free agency or the draft up til then I’d be stoked

To me he shouldn’t get out of day 2 those instincts are top 50 worthy the athlete and projection probably more top 75 but I’ve seen years of 2 down lbs even that get drafted top 50 due to inside the tackle instincts and range and I think he has a little bit more range than that.

So 75 I’m in all day 50 I don’t hate it projecting 2 down mike starter

Btw, as of now we have the 107 pick in round 4 but that might change if any team gets some comp picks at the end of round 3 so hard to see him lasting that long. If we don't get a LB in free agency and then we don't draft one in the first 3 rounds then t-dumb and Grier should be fired right before round 4!!!

I think 2018 you playing with Raekwon at mike and Kiko at weak

If that's the case then there's no need to go LB at 11 but again, I'm running out of options at 11.....if James is gone, we don't want to go guard at 11 or QB then who? I mean if they don't want Smith at 11 which they shouldn't........best case might be trading down and get value

Someone will be there- some players will rise and fall after the combine - FA etc like we were saying.. don't ask me who though..lol

You know how it goes - will have a bunch of experts saying so and so is a top 10 pick- problem is they will have 20 names..

Yes we're gonna have to wait and see what every team does in free agency as that might change what they all do with the draft one way or the other. It just sucks to wait that long but it is what it is

In this regard- Raekwon went 54- very similar projection. We had a horrible LB year so we are in a mindset that Raekwon is savior like- he has to be. But let's not forget we (I) had some reservations about him as 3 down LB. We will see- I am hopeful- I recall his tape being mixed in regards to coverage. Regardless - he is pencilled in Middle and stays on field in Nickel sets.

There has to be another 4/3 DE we are missing. Maybe we see more of the Elliot kid j-off mentioned. Tell you it's not a great LB class.

I'm telling you man, I just don't trust our FO to draft the right player in the first round. They might do the right thing but I'm not holding my breath just yet. I don't believe we should draft Smith at 11 regardless of who's on the board but if you have those two guys on the board and knowing that TJM is walking on thin ice and we passed on both James and Minkah then I will be very very mad

Most mocks I've seen so far only have two DE's going top 10, Key and Chubb.....actually most don't have another one till the 20's FWIW

So that means no LB Rd1.
Probably right. If this is case, rule out LB rd1.
    Derwin solves many problems doesnt
He.... assuming he's not there -I still consider
Smith and play him at WIL with Raekwon in middle. I feel more comfortable on passing downs and if we keep Smith clean he will cleanup. He is still on my board top 15. He looks the part of 4.55 guy. I can fill remaining LB spot RD4 or FA

If Oakland lists obi as a corner that’s a real landing spot for James

I’d say 7 and 10 hold your breath

I’d offer up one my 4th rounders to get to 9 if he got there.

Getting to 6 a lot more costly likely only consider that price for chubb

Given Mr T's propensity for draft day trades, this is plausible scenario. I guess would depend on the board for me.
But consider that Gruden was hired specifically "to fix" the offense, I expect an offensive weapon here. Perhaps Sutton, Ridley or even Guice.
If they go Defense, expect shutdown CB like Jackson if he tests well, Minkah or ball hawk type safety to team with Carl Joseph.

I'm looking for 3 impact players from this draft- if we end up with Derwin James, Trumane Edmunds and Frank Ragnow/ Billy Price and it somehow costs us both our 4ths - I would sign today.
Get me a couple decent FA bodies and a healthy Raekwon, healthier Branch & RT17 and we can compete for playoffs.

If they are keeping the same defensive scheme then I would look at DT, Taven Bryan. Outside of Suh we basically have a bunch of rotational tackles that aren't the up-field guys they are looking for.

I don't know anything about the ragnow guy but in james Edmunds and price I think by the end of the process your ask will be for 3 top 25 grade players

good luck getting that value throwing in your 4th rounders

Edmunds and josh allen are the two guys that ive seen so far that I'd predict to make a significant rise during the process

I think Roquon Smith is going to fly up the boards, let’s see what he runs at the combine. He is just about a sure thing to start for anybody. I think he will be the BPA when we pick.

Didn't realize Edmunds was a top 25 player. Was figuring more long lines of top of 2nd Rd. We move up 6-10 spots with our 4th.

Most mocks have him in the 2nd round at this point. I think Hoops means that after the combine he's going to move up. If James is not there at 11 then moving down for more picks and drafting Edmunds could be in play

Understood there will be some movement with the board after combine and FA - team's needs etc.
Back to R Smith. This kid is an every down LB - there aren't many of those in the league or draft. He isn't necessarily small at 6-2 230. Play him every down at WLB with Raekwon and it's a 180 swing at LB for Miami.

They'd both instantly change the defensive speed and TE problem.

Yep James for sure, this board cooled on Smith some due to his size but I have hard time finding 10 better position players.

I believe Smith can be a good player but you'd have to put him out there with the two right guys around him. It seems they're going to start Kiko again and kiko and Smith together would be a big target to run on. That 6'2 and 230 might be closer to 6'0 and 220 once the combine rolls around. We will then know for sure. At this point I just don't see value at 11 with Smith

Let's see how Smith runs- If he breaks 4.58 look out. We know this front office places weight on these numbers after selecting both Harris & Raekwon- 2 combine standouts.

Which would be a better left side:
Orlando Brown LT & Tunsil LG or
    Tunsil LT & Nelson LG

Point being if we draft OL RD1 we are in good shape and young at 3 positions (Davis RG$.

from rotoworld.com this is their latest pick to us

    11. Miami Dolphins - S Derwin James, FSU - I polled Dolphins fans on Twitter on who they wanted to be picked here. Some said an edge rusher. Others said corner. But the overriding name was James. I guess the Dolphins want to run three safety looks. I wanted to give them Marcus Davenport, but this doesn’t appear to be a franchise that uses early round picks on smaller program prospects.
