Some Highlights From The JES Combine Presser

He started under Flo and Mcd. He apparently is penciled in as starter by Haf. I'm going with professionals.
I've not argued he's good enough NOT to replace, but he's good enough to keep until an upgrade is found. There are a LOT of players on the '25 roster who are 'good enough . . . so far.' Some, not saying you, seem to think getting quality players is no more difficult than going to walmart and picking out a head of lettuce.
Where did he say Jackson was penciled in as the starter?

I call BS he never said that.

He didn't say $hit stinks either, but we all know it does....

Just saying....
Why would any good GM put a Tackle in the starting lineup who cant pass block and cant stay healthy, unless they are tanking?

Sully said he wasnt going to tank, so Jackson is definitely not "penciled in as the starter."

Perhaps he doesn't share your opinion?

well, I'll give you this . . Haf never said "penciled in." He did indicate he doesn't want to create more holes and seems leaning towards keeping Jax for now. I don''t think anyone sees a better OT on the roster. So, Jax seems safe and no one better at the moment. That sounds like "penciled in."

Tearing this thing down to the bare bones, which some people seem to be clamoring for, is probably a bad idea, ESPECIALLY when the cap space is so limited and there isn't the 2020 dearth of draft picks in the GM's pocket.
It should (and in my humble opinion) has to be, cycle in with the new, cycle out with the old. Otherwise we are going to be wondering how the hell, after three years, we're in no better shape than we were in in 2025. They just can't cut every mediocre player yet. It's IMPRACTICAL, no matter how average some players may be.

i guess. it is just unclear to me if AJ fills a hole based on his injury history. can you fill a hole with a hole?

IIRC, Haf, in reference to moving on from Jax and others, said he didn't believe in creating holes. Sounds to me like Haf disagrees with some here on the definition of 'hole.'

Its not an opinon, its statistics. I dont think Jackson cant stay healthy, its a fact. I dont think hes the 70th ranked pass blocking tackle, its a fact.

The statistics don't say anything resembling what you are saying. Here are Ajax's 2025 ranks among OT's with 20%+ snaps:

PFF Pass Blocking Grade -- 31st (average starter level)
Pass Block Efficiency -- 19th (close to top quartile of starting OTs)
TPS PBE -- 39th (slightly below average starter level)
PFF TPS Pass Blocking Grade -- 44th (slightly above average among 20+% snap OTs)

The thing is, in this particular case, there are only two options since a proven FA is pretty much out of the question due to cap situation.

Either roll with him this year and hope he stays healthy, or use a rd1 or two draft pick and hope he is an immediate upgrade.

I would rather not spend high draft capital on a RT this draft.

It is what it is.

Agree. Some of us have said for years *EVERY* team has a LOT of average players and only a few bottom 20% players (yes, good teams have poor players. That's my annoyance with some here. It seems to be All Pro or 'bust.' Miami's problem has been a few average players and a lot below average.
It seems JES/Haf do not intend to 'tear it down,' but want to start with as much home grown talent and low cost talent as possible. That means NOT cutting "mediocre" talent unless a better player falls to them - what I call 'keep until a better replacement is found.'

if for some reason mauigoa falls to 11, i am taking him in a second, unless for some reason someone else like styles or downs falls there, then there is a decision to be made. this is not a great draft. rt is an important position. if a player with a top 5 grade falls to 11 for some reason (10 chris grier GMs ahead of us), i am not taking a pass on mauigoa just because AJ is on our roster. even worse, i would hate to pass on a player with a top 5 grade to take another player who may not even have a first round grade on them, which is what a fair bit of the mock drafts have us doing. this is not because we would be massively reaching, but because this draft is so weak some pundits only have 11 players in the whole draft with first round grades on them.

I don't think that's true at all.

Not everyone beats a dead horse like some around here.

It gets old and redundant at some point.

I'm all for having a good Oline, but it doesn't have to be full of day one picks.
Good point, but they need to draft at least one in the 1st 2 rounds. Looks as if Savvy will take awhile to develop, AJ will be injured again and Eich already has the spare bedroom in McD's LA townhouse.

Agreed I'm not a fan of AJax the player but we are too strapped for cash and needs to take his cap hit unless we can trade him for a pick or another tackle. Until then roll with him for the year then cut bait.
We will definitely be "rolling" with him....rolling on the stretcher to the operating table again.
