It's become "clear" that Michigan OT Jake Long will not get past the top three picks in the draft, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

The Rams wined and dined Long on Thursday, bringing GM Bill Devaney, personnel man Tony Softli, president of football ops Jay Zygmunt, and coach Scott Linehan. That's just about everyone with any say in the organization. ESPN's John Clayton said Thursday he thinks Jake will go No. 1 to Miami.

"clear"- NOTHING IS CLEAR. And if it is CLEAR, its probably a SMOKESCREEN or MIS-INFORMATION. Jake Long is a VERY special player. And would make a terrrific DOLPHIN.

Who are the Phinz truly pursuing??? I can't seem to get any kind of accurate read on this. First it was Dorsey, then it was a strong mixture of C. Long / M. Ryan, now it appears that OT J. Long is the current front runner to be the Phinz selection. It's been a mind scramble up until now, and it's practically impossible to nail it down to one player, and one player only....

Personally, I don't think Miami can miss drafting #1 overall, there's just too much talent up top not to strike gold in my opinion. As for OT J. Long, I think he would be a terrific selection heading into the future. He would certainly go a long way in solidifying our OL....

So if the pick is OT J. Long, I'm a happy camper. Everyone knows who I prefer though.....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

I agree with you...it's better that we don't know...if we don't know...no one outside Parcells and Co. does...and thats the way it should be. Any of the top three or four players will be fine...although it is obvious so far at least that we have a very serious need on the O-line...that in of itself doesn't mean that the Dolphins will select J. Long...they could be using him as in Ryan as bait...to pick up more draft picks.

i really wish there was a way we could trade with Dallas for BOTH their picks. we can send them JT and our 1st, for both their 1sts and maybe a 5th.

that way we can get Brendan Albert and Chris Williams perhaps?

It's all smokescreens and rumors until the Commish announces the actual pick.
I'm personally hoping for Chris Long.

Bringing in draft picks for meetings/dinners/etc. are all a piece of the puzzle for teams. Why the press and others are getting so hyped about this is just crazy. I would be shocked if we didn't do the same thing with 3-4 guys shortly before the draft. Partly to get to know the guys better and if there's a fit or not. And partly to make everyone else keep guessing and getting really nervous if that's the guy they hope falls to them. Smoke screens are going to be cheap and easy to come by over the next month, so don't read into anything you see or hear.

I don't know if this was included in the article you saw, but I found this on Foxsports.com:
In addition to dining with the Rams on Thursday night, Long also met privately with Miami Dolphins director of college scouting Ron Labadie. The Dolphins are scheduled to pick first. -- NFL Network

I cant believe we didnt fire our director of college scouting (on a side note). He was here (I believe) all the way back to the Wanny years. Yuck.

I'm sure our current scouting department's day of reckoning will be on or about May 1st...

I love all these smoke screens and all the questions that the new regime brings out from us. I am truly enjoying this offseason, they are actually making me think and making me to decipher through all of this.....

I'm with you Blitz, I don't think we can go wrong with the first pick, any one of the top guys would add a tremendous element to our team
