Lets go Canes!
I am an optimist by nature and right now, I have fin glasses on (thus justifying an avatar I saw earlier, "The Homer Depot").
In any case - I think our fins have a realistic chance of going ~9-7 and entertaining the idea of a wild card spot.
Why?
Our O-Line showed a glimpe of brilliance on that first drive against a pretty good Defense. Flawless execution, big holes, gave their qb time, etc...
If they do this one a semi-consistent basis, things are looking much better.
I cannot possibly see how the team could perform worse then last years - we ARE a better team.
*Our QB, GIVEN TIME, will be serviceable.
*Yes the defensive system is new, and the squad will only improve as time passes... but our rookie has a head start and the veterans should be able to pick it up in a reasonable time (this is the NFL).
I think that simply due to an improved O-Line (watch, just watch) our Qbs will seem decent, and we'll finally have a running game.
This is not the:
1st down - Run for 1.5 yards.
2nd down - pass, usu. incomplete.
3rd down - pass, for a crappy conversion %
of last year, this is a different system.
Bottom line: THIS WHOLE SEASON rides on our O-Line, period. We have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball, and superb coaching. If it plays ANYWHERE near the level they played on that opening drive, that is worth a few wins right there.
AFC East:
Bills - Lossman, a rookie.... their O-Line is nothing to write home about.
Jets - Pennington coming off a freaking rotator cup injury, that should zap a little of the already low arm str. he had.
Pats - You can run on them. They lost two Assistant coaches. That has to hurt them in SOME way.
We are probably not going to the playoffs, and if we somehow sneaked in, we wouldn't make it past round 1; however, this will be an exciting year (remember that).
