He has stated that picking a QB in the first round is a 30 percent shot at getting it right.

He has said he wants value at that position in the draft.

1st may indicate that he actually doesnt want to draft a QB. The 2nd point may indicate that he doesnt want a RB with that pick.

For wanting Smith so bad that first comment he made is quite contradictory.

It almost sounds like he is leaning towards Braylon who is considered the cleanest pick and the best player in the draft. (this is not meant to argue the point of mike Wiliams being better). If he doesnt feel that confident in a QB I am sure he wont draft Rodgers if he falls to us. If Smith falls to us he may draft him due to ties to Linehan and the fact that he has such great intangibles. Running back at 2nd is almost out of the question as most of us already assume. I honestly think we go Braylon if Smith is not there.

The first comment should be viewed with a little perspective... you really need to know the success rate of 2nd and lower quarterbacks (it's MUCH lower than 30%) and from that you can actually make the argument that he's saying that the 1st round is the best place to obtain a QB... in his own sly and veiled sort of way.
