Now, a lot of us Dolphins fans are looking at this game and are glad to see that the Ravens will be starting a rookie QB in his first playoff game, on the road. I see that as a big advantage for us, obviously. But, surprisingly, Flacco's road stats this season are much better than his home stats. Still, the playoffs are a different animal, so I do expect (and hope) that the crowd will rattle him.
Anyways, here's what I found interesting. As good as the Ravens defense is, they have played significantly worse on the road than they have at home, or at least the stats would indicate that. I did some calculations, and take a look at what I've found:
Ravens defense at home this season (per game): 10 points allowed, 149 passing yards allowed, 73.875 rushing yards allowed, 222.875 total yards allowed, .875 fumbles recovered, 1.875 interceptions, 2.75 turnovers forced
Ravens defense on the road this season (per game): 20.5 points allowed, 210.375 passing yards allowed, 88.875 rushing yards allowed, 299.25 total yards allowed, .125 fumbles recovered, 1.375 interceptions, 1.5 turnovers forced
Now, I realize that certain things could skew this (such as special teams fumbles and special teams scoring), but I still think it's clear that their defense has played worse on the road than at home.
Now, am I saying that they are a bad defense on the road? Absolutely not. They have had some really good defensive efforts on the road thus far. But these stats still should not be discounted.
Go Dolphins!
