watching the combine last night and mike and the other hosts were discussing 4-3 end making the transition to 3-4 olb. mike used lamarr woodley as an example. mike explained the transition takes about a year to make, being in his 2nd yr. woodley made the transition nicely. got me thinking about matt roth and this yr will be his 2nd year making the transition. so lets hope matt makes the same kind of impact lamarr did.

i said this prev - good shout - Roth at beginning of 08 was being considered as DE and then moved to OLB and was way off his sharpness and speed. Dont get me wrong he is not LT re-incarnited......but i have him as out most improved player 09, with at least 8 sacks and 70 tackles. Samson closely following in second place. Watch this space.

I think he is going to. For some strange reason he is my favorite player.

Matt is a turtle with gator arms, he will always and forever be engulfed by OT's

I wouldn't exactly say he's my favorite player but he certainly has the attitude and mean streak I like to see in a linebacker. I really hope he drops some weight and gains some speed so that he can really utilize his aggressiveness in the open field

Considering the short arms thing is well know on this board, if Roth did drop weight, does he have the ability to play some ILB, too. I know one of the ILBs is more for pass coverage and containment on sweeps and the like (AKA Ayodele last year), while the other ILB takes care of bull rushing the line for run blitzing and plugging up inside running lanes (Crowder last year). Just a thought, but having Roth take Crowders spot may be a solution if Channing doesn't re-sign with us.

Trade Roth for a pick and draft Mitch King to play ILB.
