I think when Hickey stepped in as our GM, he saw fixing the dreadful Dolphins O-Line as a (best case scenario) two year project. I think part of his pitch to become the GM of the team was to focus heavily on this aspect of the team in the draft, and provide position depth in FA (barring a huge talent like Brandon Albert coming available). One year in, he has helped this group get substantially better talent-wise, but there is still work to be done. Specifically, the guard positions are a mess. This handicapped much of the work the team wanted to do on O last year, and many of the problems the team had on that side of the ball extend outward from there.

While there will likely be great WR prospects available at pick #14, I see Scherff as the guy near the top of the Dolphins' board, with CB help as the fallback if Scherff is gone (specifically Trae Waynes and Jalen Collins, in that order). Tannenbaum inexplicably saying he felt good about the team at guard on 3/9/2015 provides further proof there is something up his sleeve...no sane person could stay that (even one as maligned as him).

Is it a sexy pick? That's arguable. Scherff is a beast, whose short arms have relegated him from tackle to guard in a lot of team's eyes, dropping him down the draft pecking order from the top 10, but he would immediately solve a huge problem spot on the Dolphins in the same way James did last year.

I'd be very happy if we drafted him, though I know a LOT of posters are going to be doing the quick-take "WTF?! Who is SCHERFF?!"...only to look him up and slowly come around to it being a quality pick.

What do you think? :hclap:

I think once the draft gets outside of the top 10, Offensive lineman are going to be coming off the board quickly.

Leonard Williams and Danny Shelton are two top 10 DT that will probably be gone.

Amari Cooper, Kevin White and DeVante Parker are WRs that will probably be gone in the top 12 picks.

Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota will be gone top 10.

Randy Gregory, Dante Fowler will be gone top 10 with the possibility of Shane Ray and Vic Beasley also sneaking in there.

Trea Waynes is the only CB possible of sneaking in the top 10.

And that all leaves a lot of offensive lineman.

I was thinking the same thing! Something in my gut say we will go this direction. He can play T and G. So this is a philbin guy lol

It would be the smart move. Can't trust Alberts health and if he is healthy we have a stud guard.

especially without being able to sign a veteran experienced OG to start for us in FA (we will see)... i can definitely see us making that type of move

if he makes a legit guard then it it a great pick

I think Sherff would be the top name on the Dolphins board followed by 1 of the top 3 wideouts then cb

After seeing what Zack Martin did last year, Scherff is a sexy pick this year.

I've been saying all along....Scherff and La'el Collins are 2 guys that can play Guard and tackle...I never expected Scherff too make it to 14....but if all the receivers, pass rushers, QB's and Trae Waynes is gone.....I wouldn't argue with it.

If all 3 top receivers are off the board, Wayne is gone and you can't trade out of the pick... Then you take the best offensive lineman with that pick and feel pretty good about it.
