It is really crazy when you break it down.....he has lost almost a million dollars in salary, who knows what the stupid reality tv show was paying as well.....he lost a chance to play for his hometown team, a team that he grew up rooting for....he allegedly assaulted his wife, is getting divorced and could have hurt his chances of ever playing football professionally again.....
He was so out of control in the moment he was quoted as saying that he didn't care about his career......
Now I know he is likley very well off financially, however this is really crazy.....he was asked to just represent the team in a respectful manner....stop swearing at press conferences etc.... other than that he could be himself...
I don't know about the rest of you guys, but if I behaved this way in the work that I do, I could very likely lose my job.....I really don't know what he was thinking, but it seems like to me he may either have some sort of mental health concern, or his persona has gone to his head....either way we are better off without him....
When I played highschool ball , guys on the team really had a different standard. We got away with skipping class, getting cuaght drinking at the dance etc....all because we played ball.....all while other students had consequences....the sad part is, if Johnson was 10 years younger, or maybe even caught a few more passes in camp, or in the preseason opener, maybe he would still be on the team.....football at this level is a profession, just like any other job....its too bad these standards, or even norms for athletes are still prevelant when these guys are adults....and you probably could blame these norms in the sport for the reason why so many of these guys are getting arrested and are *******s.....if anyone else acted like this in their profession your job would be given to someone else very quickly
All in all good move by Philbin, Johnson deserved to be cut, however if this was another player, the consequence would very well be different....I hope Philbin continues to manage the Team with this level of pride and professionalism
