I haven’t been as active as I’d like to be, I’ve been busy with college. These topics are all things you’ve all heard and thought before, so watch out. Forgive the length.
The play calling will work itself out. A lot of it is created in response to the bad position our O-line puts us in. That is still no excuse. We need to sign one big free agent and have a SOLID draft with REAL talent in order to restructure our O-line. Keep Carey and Hadnot, that’s it.
The main problem I’ve come to see is our lack of pure speed, talent, and youth. Of course this means Jason Allen and D. Hagan. The only way our GOOD vets can thrive in the ‘system’ Saban employs, is if they are complemented by TRUE athletes that can just play the darn game. We don’t have ONE true ballhawk anywhere on the field. Crowder is the only playmaker I see (other than Taylor), and he is underutilized because we have to rely on Thomas and himself to make every play. Allen, Roth, Evans, big Vick, and Hagan are all youthful/full of talent/ and wasting away on the sidelines. If our ‘system’ is such a gift from God, why are we 1-3 (should be 0-4 if not for the luck factor). The staff, as much as I love what Saban brings to us, is making the game of football out to be something its not. Its not above our heads, it’s not a severely complicated science. It’s a game. We need gamers AS WELL AS our veterans in order to win games. Starting scabs that have seniority on the roster is not as wise as starting players who will grow and learn from their mistakes...even if its in a crucial game situation. Id feel better that our future General of the secondary (other than Daniels) is on the field, than some moron who wasn’t even a has been. We have never-will-be’s- playing in some of our most crucial areas on the field. This needs to change. Id love to have our young ones play, even if it was for the loss. The point is to learn; so we don’t have to face another losing season in order for them to get acquainted in starting roles. For Christ’s sake…what is the point of striving for mediocrity with mediocre players. There will be no future if we keep this same scenario up..itll be the same crap over and over again. Football is a game people. Saban rocks, but he needs to realize that his ‘system’ will suck until he fully tears the roster apart and injects all the young talent we have into it. I would love to see Allen replace Tillman, Roth split time 50/50 with carter this yr, Evans split time 50/50 with our DTs and Hagan and Welker to take the place of booker. Id love to see it, even if we lose..because at least we would be settling our future once and for all. But I don’t see it. All I see are empty loses, wasting the talents and effort of Taylor, Thomas, Brown, and our SOLID vets. It saddens me to say that Taylor and Thomas are wasting away, and will never get a shot at a super bowl because they have below-average players backing them up on a daily basis. Change is good, change needs to happen, and if not we’ll continue our downward spiral of wasted potential and irreparble damage.
