I know there were at atleast a couple of phin players against TO
coming to Miami. It seems some Denver players feel the same.

DISGRUNTLEMENT IN DENVER REGARDING T.O.

In the wake of reports that receiver Terrell Owens and agent Drew Rosenahaus met with Broncos officials on Monday in Denver, we're told that several current members of the team aren't happy with the potential acquisition of Owens.

The feeling, as we hear it, is that plenty of guys already on the team have worked loyally for the franchise over the years, and that the flirtation with T.O. is an implicit ratification by the Broncos of a player's effort to squeeze more money than he has bargained for by being a chronic turd.

The rest of the article is on pro football talk in the rumormill section.

"If it would work anywhere, I think it would work here because of the guys in the locker room," center Tom Nalen said. "Guys would keep him straight. I think he'd conform. He'd fit in here."

I think maybe they are mixed about a guy like Owens too, A definate distraction, but a hell of a football player. I think you'll probably find this kind of things with any team that is interested in TO.

I can respect that. I would rather get younger at that position, considering
TO is going into his 11th NFL season.

Noone can question his talent, I'm worried about the baggage.
Thanks for the link, Tray

Well that quote just doomed Denver if they do sign TO - he's not the kind of guy that conforms or is tamed by other players, especially since he considers them (and justifyably so) to be lesser talents/less important to their team's success. Besides, his alpha behavior is part of what makes his game so aggressive and impressive, its not really something you want to beat out of a guy. Donovan McNabb couldn't do it, Tom Nalen won't either.

What I think teams who go after TO must understand is that you have to make space for his personality and accept what he is to a certain degree - much in the same way Nick Saban and the Dolphin organization has dealt with Ricky.

I don't see how the Dolphins have made exceptions for Ricky at all. What have they done to accomodate him in any way that is different then what they have done for any other player? Other than knowck his pay down to the league minimum, toss around the possibility of giving him to the highest bidder, and making him a backup? If anything, I would say that Ricky has done an exemplory (sp?) job of conformning to the Dolphin's plans.

I agree...you can say they're both distractions, but Ricky's personality is nearly the opposite of TO. When things get too tough for Ricky, he runs away - TO stays around, shoots his mouth off, and makes everybody else's life miserable.

I agree. What Ricky has done this year is give us an option of trading or keeping him. Either way we win imo

While I agree that you have to give TO his space, that kind of mentality where one player in the organization gets special treatment breeds more discontent within the organization. SF still hasn't recovered, and this is probably the end of PHI being a top team in the NFC. Championships are won with a team mentality, and TO just doesn't have it. He needs to go play an individual sport like tennis or golf...then he wouldnt have teammates to worry about - his personality wouldn't really matter.

Makes me wonder what kind of guys Nalen thinks are in the Denver lockerroom that weren't in the Philly lockerroom.
