Graduated from rehab today, knee feels great. Thanks Dino and Leonard!

I know he is an afterthought for most of you, but this is one of the guys I am really rooting for to make the 53. He was a force in the CFL, and at 6-3, 245 lbs could be a great short yardage back for us. However, it probably is going to take the Dolphins keeping four running backs to make the squad, which I think they might do. Bush, Thomas and Miller are locks, so hopefully he will be the 4th(needs to beat out Slaton).

There was a lot of speculation back in May when he had this surgery that he was probably going miss the entire offseason(including training camp) and possibly be placed on IR for the regular season. He did return to limited work at the last mini camp, and now it appears he is 100% ready to go.

him or jonas grey if healthy honestly who im pulling for...its not like we shouldnt keep a possible gem as our 4th between the 2..slaton is good but honestly have no role for him and we know what he can do.. atleast Grey and Messam has something called potential that noone has seen before.

I think the 4th and possibly 5th RB spot if they keep that many is wide open. Gray will go on the PUP so it's between Messam , Slaton and a couple guys I'm not too familiar with. That plus we could stash him on the practice squad if necessary.

i think messam is a sleeper I'm pulling for him, I think he can be a nice short yardage back or goal-line back, all i know is dthomas better step up his game or messam will be carrying the rock on short yardage.

I've been waiting and wanting to see this big dog eat. The CFL is a place for scat backs and passing most of the time and at 245 pounds he led the CFL in rushing. I also understand that he is a excellent pass blocker. And he has good hands. We have already signed him to a 3 year contract.

Phiblin has said that we will not use a FB often. But he does want a short yardage back and someone that can play FB and I think that is what Messam is.

With him that gives us 2 "big backs" in Messam and Thomas and two "fast" backs in Bush and Miller. Which IMO gives us a deep and dangerous rushing attack. Last season we had a exact 50/50 split of rushing plays to passing plays per game, 29.3. That gave us the 6th most rushing attempts in the NFL but we were only 11th in yardage and 15th (in a 4 way tie) in YPC.

I expect Thomas to be much better then last season now that he has had time to get over his hamstring injury and has aged a year in the NFL. He did show flashes of being very good last season before he tweaked his hamstring again. It might take a while to get Messam up to speed but he can run. L Miller can fly and is big enough to play in the NFL. Reggie Bush had his best running season yet and he can certainly run the ball.

We can run the ball. Even in this pass happy NFL I'd love a 50/50 split of plays between rushing and passing.

The difference I've seen between Messam and Thomas is that Messam doesn't show as much tendency to lose his feet when hit. He keeps his feet a little longer which helps him use his length to lean forward for an extra yard or two.

I continue to not be high on Daniel Thomas but we'll see how he develops.

Here is one for you.

Thigpen ! No, not Tyler, Marcus. Marcus Thigpen. He has played as a WR in the CFL for the last two seasons but he is a return man. He was 2nd in 2010 and 4th in 2011 in the CFL in combined return yards.

We signed him as a RB and a return man. If he wins one or more of those positions, he could sneak in at 5th.

I did not like this pick until I saw him run when he was healthy. He sort of reminds me of a Franco Harris in the way he picks his way though the defense. I still say that Thomas runs like a running QB which is what he was.

Clearly, his injury was at least one reason behind R Bush becoming the "feature back" (as it will now be known as) last season.

I also think there was a "understanding" between Sparano and Bush that is not in effect now. That being that Bush will mostly just run the ball.

i see what you mean. Miller is not a punt returner and Bess is Bess.

I think Slaton is going to have to be lights out, or the rest fighting for the #4 position must totally fall on their face for him to get in. There really is nothing special anymore for Slaton.

There will be some tough decision to make. I know the media is saying that we have no talent but we are actually loaded at RB. Also, Jonas Gray is an interesting prospect for next year.

If Messam can play special teams, maybe he will make it. But they also kept Slaton because of his success in the WCO.

Maybe we keep 5 RB, and 5 WR.

One thing for sure, I can't wait to hear Training Camp reports on the RB battle.

Sorry guys but I just don't see it. Messam is a guy with average speed, below average lateral movement and decent vision. But his vision comes from running in so many spread sets. I really don't see this guy having a shot at the 53 or practice squad. Jonas Grey is a much more talented back and when he gets healthy will be much more productive at the NFL level IMO. Messam runs with decent pad level for a guy that tall, but has to come to a stop nearly to make a cut in the open field. He will have a ton of negative carries in the NFL. If he is caught in the backfield he is finished, very few broken tackles for a guy his size, even with the horrible tackling up there. Short yardage backs are usually not as tall as Messam. Short yardage is more about leverage than weight. It is hard to get low enough to get under LBs and push them back when you are tall. Most great short yardage back were under 6 ft.

That's pretty awesome.

And holy hell, a Joneal sighting.

We're holding you accountable for "Jonas Grey" aka "Baby Cecil Collins". The dimensions and running style are very similar, hopefully that's where the similarities end.
