Dismissed Monday after six seasons as the head coach of the New York Jets, Rex Ryan won’t have trouble finding work if he chooses to return to the National Football League in 2015.

Sources familiar with the situation have informed the National Football Post that the Miami Dolphins offered Ryan a multi-year contract this week worth approximately $8 million to become the team’s next defensive coordinator.

However, while Ryan built his reputation as the defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens from 2005-2008, the prevailing line of thinking is that the 52-year-old would prefer to accept a head coaching position rather than take a role as an assistant. That assertion is furthered by the recent reports indicating Ryan is scheduled to meet with both the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers about their current vacancies.
The Dolphins’ attempt to lure Ryan to Miami clearly indicates that the organization is looking to shake things up on the defensive side of the ball. Whether or not the team succeeds in landing an upgrade remains to be seen, but head coach Joe Philbin has gone just 23-25 with the club since taking over in 2012 and no doubt enters the 2015 campaign on the hot seat.

At least we were smart enough to have made him an offer.

AGAIN!!! We offer a contract BEFORE we fire the guy he would replace....??? SMH Or did we already inform Coyle, and it just has not been made public yet??

Plus would it mean a shift to a 30 front? Now that would be interesting with some of the front 7 talent currently on the books.

I just got chills and some hope, but I don't believe this article nor the source.

If this is true, it's just another example of the Dolphins under Ross digging a hole by offering someone a job without firing the current person in that position.

Now that it's out there, if history holds, we'll give Coyle an extension.

I have no problem with that. Teams should have a good idea of what's available to them before firing the incumbent. You don't want to be stuck with no coordinator although in this case that might not be such a bad thing. That these things become public is another matter.

I don't buy it because I don't think Joe would talk to other coaches when another guy is still employed. Secondly, that is crazy money. It almost sounds like when George Constanza's secretary is making more than he was. Lol

WTF, they still have Coyle under contract. Didn't we learn anything from the Harbaugh debacle? Can Coyle then find your DC. I love Rex as DC but would also certainly consider Jeremy Pruitt from Georgia although I don't think he would leave. He runs a 3-4 so I don't know if that would work either but I definitely like him.

Fire Coyle. Open it up...

List the names and better DC's that you could have.

Ryan
Dennis Allen
Wade Phillips
Eric Mangini
Butch Davis
Greg Schiano
Vic Fangio....maybe
Rob Ryan...maybe
Mike Smith

I could keep going and going.

Mando will have a source a few hours from now denying this. I the my life as a fin fan.

If we hire Ryan Im all in for 2015! I think he takes over for Philbin after the season. I don't think he'll be here though. I don't believe this article for a second

I doesn't make sense. He'll be making more than Philbin

Looking over their other recent articles and I am not seeing off the wall rumors or stories. Take it with a grain of salt I guess. The number does seem high, could be just a ploy to raise the bidding.
