Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, who won 85 games and one SEC championship in 10 seasons, won't return as the Tigers' coach in 2009, multiple sources close to the situation confirmed on Wednesday.

The decision was made after Tuberville met with Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs for the second time in as many days on Wednesday.
The decision was first reported by the Birmingham (Ala.) News on Wednesday.

Auburn has been waiting for Tubbs to lose to Alabama so they could fire him....they couldn't justify it with 6 straight wins over their hated in state rival...

Word is...the whole staff is in fact...out...

Bobby Petrino is the guy that Auburn probably already had inked to a contract...

I think that there is a clause in Petrino's contract that says he can't leave Arkansas for another SEC school.

You figured his days were numbered when he canned the OC in the middle of the year and they played worse.

He's been dead man walking all year long.

The Birmingham News is reporting that Auburn officials have made contact with Texas Tech coach Mike Leach to gauge his interest in the Auburn job.

Supposedly Tubberville said he'd help Auburn get a new coach (Patrino can't go because of a clause in his contract, and Muschamp is the Coach in Waiting at Texas)

If Tubberville wants it, he's got the Miss State job.

I always thought Butch Davis would end up getting a job in the SEC at a school like UT or Auburn when their hot seat coaches got fired, but it appears he's turned UNC around now so i'm not sure if that'll happen.

I've actually thought that Davis will stay at UNC for a while. There is talent in the mid atlantic area, and, kids will want to start coming to Chapel Hill now.
