Sources tell miami herald Jason Taylor to retire following season

Good luck in your next job JT, I always loved watching you play. You are a sure HOFer, just maybe not first ballot. One of my all time favorite Fins for sure.

As for all of you fans that are trashing him because he wore another team's jersey for a few seasons, well get over yourselves. The only reason he wore those other jerseys is because of Bill Parcells' stubbornness and archaic way of doing things. I hate the Jests as much as anyone else, but you've got to realize (especially since its now public knowledge) that he wore those other uniforms because he had to, not because he wanted to. SMH at our fanbase sometimes.

This thread for the most part proves to me that we have the worst fanbase in the league. What could I expect for the same group of people that wanted Shula forced out and wanted to trade Marino and keep Scott Mitchell.

Hall of Fame in time, won't be right away.

Do NOT retire #99

I follow the pre draft process closely and for 2 seasons before Taylor was drafted by Miami, i had been reading about him and his potential, in many of the draft and pre draft magazines I was receiving ... I remember watching him during a Collage All Star Game, where he preformed very well and was talked about alot during the game and began to hope he'd be a Dolphin ... Needless to say, WHEN MIAMI drafted Taylor in Round #3, I was jumping for joy!!! He instantly became my Favorite Dolphin and eventually bought Jason Taylor Jersey's in all the colors ... Jimmy Johnson GOT this one right and Taylor became a star!!! Jason Taylor was Taylor made for the 4-3 defense ... JT you'll always be my Favorite, you brought me hope when my beloved Dolphins were fading ... Your relentless pass rush and leadership transformed Miami's lacking Defense into one of the NFL's best for about a decade ... would it be too much to ask for ONE MORE YEAR? GOOD LUCK JT!!! Thanks for the Memories!!!

Jason Taylor to retire

Didn't see posted. Saw on ESPN that JT is retiring after Sunday's game.

Would like to see him go out w/ a win.

99 is and will always be a class act. He stuck by this organization through thick and thin......mainly thin and let's not forget that. You'll be missed JT.....wish you would come back for one more year......thanks for all the great memories!

He was a very productive player for the dolphins for many years. But to me, he will always be the guy who led the good but not great defenses that would never seem to make the big plays when needed to in the big games. Also, his knack for writhing in pain late in games only to be fine a minute later seemed to grate on me as well. Is he the last JJ drafted player left in the nfl?

Why can't these people ask the sources about the upcoming coaching search instead of **** like this. JT is a Dolphin legend, but honestly who ****ing cares. He should have retired a couple years ago.

It would be nice to see him get a couple more sacks against the Jets.
He is still playing good, maybe the new staff will want to keep him around if Jason changes his mind.

With all the NFL show head coaches going back to the sideline, there will be openings for a guy like Jason on camera.
If a uneducated Michael Irvin can do TV, Jason will be a star.

Jason Taylor, one of the NFL's top sack specialists of all time, is expected to call an end to his legendary career Sunday, according to a Miami Herald report Tuesday.
The newspaper, citing two Dolphins sources, reports Taylor has decided to step aside for good as the team's all-time sacks leader following Sunday's home game against the New York Jets.
The Herald said it was unclear if Taylor planned to hold a press conference before Miami's final 2011 game to formally end his 15-year career.
With 139.5 sacks, active league leader Taylor is sixth on the NFL's career list. The Pennsylvannia native trails only Bruce Smith, Reggie White, Kevin Greene, Chris Doleman and Michael Strahan among sack leaders.
Taylor, who became a free agent when the New York Jets released him in March, signed in August to rejoin the Dolphins. He has played in all 15 games for Miami, including one as a starter.
Taylor, who turned 37 in September, spent his first 11 seasons with the Dolphins and has long lived in South Florida. He played for Washington in 2008, then rejoined the Dolphins in 2009, and last year he had hoped for an offer to remain in Miami, but signed instead with the Jets.
The six-time Pro Bowler holds Dolphins career records for sacks (143), opponents' fumble recoveries (27), fumble returns for touchdowns (6), defensive touchdowns (9) and interceptions by a defensive lineman (7). His best season was in 2006, when he was the NFL defensive player of the year.

How in the world is he sixth all time with 139.5 sacks and have the Dolphins career record with 143? Shouldn't he have more overall as he had to have some with Washington and New York?

Let bygones be bygones.

Let Jason enjoy his retirement. He put his heart and soul for this team and it gave him nothing in return. Why do you think he joined the Redskins and Jets? Just because he wanted a ring doesn't make him any less of a player.
