Sparano:Back To The Basics

I think this is good. The whole Wildcat thing was fun in the NE game, and so-so in the SD ,but after that...even as a fan...was fustrated. You cant be legit in this league running a high school play, inorder to throw off opposing teams...

I respectfully disagree.

First of all, this is not a high school play. This is old time football and if Wonderbill from New England had run it, it would be praised as pure genius.

Yes, it is very different from most offenses in the NFL today, that is true, but why is that bad. The object, last I checked, was to win. Part of winning in a league that is frankly very even top to bottom, is out scheming your opponent. If everyone lined up in the same offense and the same defense every week, the NFL would get pretty dull.

I never like hearing, "back to the basics" and "good sound fundamental football" nothing good ever comes from that. When a professional coach is saying that to professional players, trouble is a brewing. Wanny always used to talk like that.

Your gonna take this as a flame, but its not.

I just don't understand why people post an article and dont bother to read it.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe you did read it, but nowhere in the article is "Wildcat" mentioned.

In fact, most of it is dedicated to our lack of tackling on defense.

The most glaring area of concern for Sparano against Baltimore and the week before in the last-second loss at Houston is on the defensive side of the ball, specifically when it comes to making tackles.

They did mention offensive struggles as well though, but that was overall. Mainly the fact that we arent making our blocks.

On the offensive side of the ball, Sparano eluded to a lack of execution along the offensive line and in the overall pass blocking and run blocking against the Ravens as an example of fundamentals not being paid attention to. As a result, the running game never got going with running backs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams and quarterback Chad Pennington was being forced out of the pocket and asked to throw on the run more than he would have liked.

This applies on every offensive snap, not just "Wildfin" plays.

While I am happy to hear they are addressing this, I think its a little late in the game to be teaching these guys how to tackle or block. Maybe they were just lapses, afterall, they executed very well in the NE and SD games.

I agree.. as for the inability to tackle.. IMO it is a talent issue.. and will take another off season or 2 to correct.
