Sparano concerned about O-Line and running game.

Yea, apparently it takes longer than 3 years at the minimum.

Our RG was playing the position for the first time, our RT was only here a week. Throw in its a new offensive scheme with only 10 days to learn and Oh, the Falcons Oline is the same as it was, minus Dahl, as it was in 2010 and 2009. And, they have one of the better QBs in the league, Their RBs and WRs have been in the same offense for 3 years. No one mentions that but on this board, none of that matters plus, our guards can't pull. LMAO 70 offensive plays and on average, there are 3 to 4 plays a game where a LG is asked to pull. Figured I would answer it as I already knew no one on the board could figure the question out but HEY, our guards can not pull. And some want Carey who you time with an hour glass to play LG ? yes, i see the light.

Oh yeah, official answer folks is 3 to MAYBE 4 % of an entire offensive playbook. Which consists on average of around 3 to 400 plays of which they study about 30 for each game. Some games guards pull less then 2 times depending on the game plan.
 
There's no excuse for the O-line to be struggling now. It's been 4 years. I'm very disappointed in Sparano on this one.

Im dissapointed with him in so many ways but this is the biggest reason. How much money and picks do u need to form a stable line.
 
I did not see anyone standout on the second team, and the addition of a new lineman will slow up the learning curve. We need stability. We need to invest more time with Pouncey on line communication. There were a couple of really bad blocking scheme calls during that game. Tony needs to fight his tendency and get this line playing as well as it can.

I'm positive he won't. One of the things I hate most about Sparano is how pig-headed and stubborn he is. If something is failing horribly, rather than adjust, he keeps doing it. That's not a sign of a smart and flexible coach.
 
You are all aware that any HC, any, does not have a choice on who is picked in the draft correct ? A GM MAY, allow a coach one pick of his choice but it will most certainly be in either the 6th or 7th round or an UDFA, thats it. This was hit upon during the ESPN Hard Knocks with the NY Jets. Some believe Rex Ryan was making picks or getting free agents signed and thats wrong and its no different here or anywhere else. The Director of Player personal and the GM are directly responsible for selecting the picks and signing FA, no one else.

In the Hard Knocks episode Rex Ryan and Tannenbaum ( sp ) clearly stated that Rex was given the choice of one pick of his choice and one pick only, the rest was being decided solely by Tannenbaum and they did clearly state thats the way it is around the entire NFL. Rex's choice was the kid they call Terminator and you bet he rubbed it into everyones faces that he was his pick. Kid is pretty goood by the way, battering Ram.

So, for those thinking Sparano is making all these choices you are dam wrong. He coaches what is brought in for him, period and thats it. You can look directly , prior to this at Parcells and Ireland and now Ireland. If Sparano was given a pick or choice it is one of the late rounders or a UDFA that they signed. No coach in the NFL decides to sign the high priced FA and no coach in the NFL gets a pick in the first four rounds of the draft, at best and thats even shaky, its from the 5th round on. IF THE GM EVEN ALLOWS THE COACH TO PICK ONE. Anyone that taped hard knocks watch it again, its in there. Not sure what episode but it clearly states how its done folks.

Sorry to ruin some posters vision that Sparano is making the choices on draft picks and FA Olineman, he is not. Its his job to see what he has only after he gets them.

Tony Sparano is NOT the Oline coach. Regardless of what people imagine I would wager Sparano spends almost zero time tutoring the offensive line gentlemen. Go to practice, if you see Sparano even near the Oline he is just saying something as he passes by, thats it.

Take the Jets Oline coach, Bill Callahan. Completely sucked as a head coach in the PRos and in major D1 football. He started out as an Oline coach but when he became a HC, he did not have the time to put into being HC and Oline coach.

Gets his asssss kicked out of Nebraska, goes to NY as their Oline coach and since then, doing a dam fine job of it. You ask anyone to ask Rex Ryan about his offensive line. He will clearly admit its none of his business, he leaves it up to Callahan. Same goes for Sparano. If people are pissed at slow progress then here is how the totem pole works.

Ireland decides who is drafted and picked.
The offensive line coach is SOLELY responsible for bringthem along and teaching them a craft.
Now. look at who our Oline coach is and see how much he has improved any of the Olineman since he has been here. May open some eyes to see what is really transpiring folks and who is responsible and who is not. Thats all I will say abou tthe matter.

I really believe that if we sign someone like OHara, it would put us in a position to at least try some interesting things like Pouncey at LG, or/and Garner at RT or RG, because one thing is very clear, our running game is looking BAD!!

I think Pouncey and Garner are very solid players that should be very good guards, now we should only find an adequate RT and a regular center. Not Columbo, Jerry and Incognito!!!
 
Part of the problem is the offensive line, the other part is the lack of a power back now that there is no Ricky or Ronnie to hand off to. Hey Tony, how about giving Clinton Portis a shot, I bet he still has something left in the tank.
