SPIELMAN HEADING TO DETROIT?

The head coach of the Lions in 2006, whoever it might be, might have another guy in the front office to help with the acquisition of talent.

Word is that CEO Matt Millen could be adding former Dolphins G.M. Rick Spielman to the front office.

Spielman currently works for ESPN, after being forced out of Miami by the Nicktator prior to the 2005 season. And while many fans and league observers like to blame Spielman for moves like the A.J. Feeley trade, Spielman and former head coach Dave Wannstedt were, in all fairness, thrust into a desperate situation after Dan Marino quit as team president less than a month after accepting the job and owner Wayne Huizenga decided to give Spielman and Wannstedt a chance to show that no changes to the structure should be made.

Although 2004 turned out to be a train wreck for Spielman and Wannstedt, the Dolphins generally were competitive under their leadership, and Spielman continues to be regarded as a quality personnel evaluator. He likely would have landed somewhere else in 2005 if he'd been nudged out before June, and there's a chance that more teams than the Lions will come calling once the front-office shuffling process commences in 2006
hmm i hope this happens maybe they will cough up shaun rogers for like a 6th rounder.

Doesn't that team have enough problems?

Good for Spielman. We'll finally get to see how much of the problem was Spielman and how much Wannstedt's input. I predict he'll have Detroit in the playoffs within two years if he gets the job.

I've been saying this for over a year and no one listens, but I'll say it again anyways: Rick Spielman was a good evaluator of talent. He made some terrible deals as a GM in his one year (mostly driven by desperation), but his ability to spot talent was pretty good. His one draft after getting full control was strong. Carey, Poole, Pope, Hadnot were good pickups, especially considering 3 of those 4 were second day picks. Only Pape has failed to make an impact, and he was what a 7th rounder?

We got rid of Feeley to damn earley !!!!!!!!!!!

Think he'll go after Feeley? With Feeley's current contract hes too expensive to be a back up.

Exactly. The situation in Miami was poison for him. He should do well with a fresh start

Someone should go tell the Detriot fans on thier site about the troubles they will get into if Spielman came. No team (w/ the exception of the Jets) deserves to have thier franchise trashed like he would to them. Poor Detriot

Don't forget Boom Boom Bua! :D

But yes, I agree.

That's good news, maybe we can steal picks from him. Mueller seems to be good at manipulating speilman.

That article is ridiculous, blaming Marino for the problems is pathetic & shows a complete lack of insight.

Whoever wrote that is clueless, or a friend of Speilmen and wansteadt
