### Joe Philbin was non-committal about whether Kevin Coyle would return as defensive coordinator. “I need obviously some time to think about some things,” he said when asked about Coyle specifically and the staff overall. “The season just ended, but I haven’t made any decisions about any coaches for 2015, none of them.”

When several players were asked over the past two days whether Coyle was to blame, none said he wasn’t. Instead, multiple players said it was a combination of factors.

“Put it on everything,” Randy Starks said. “We’re all on the same defense. It was miscommunication, different things. We weren’t on the same page. We were on the same page at the start of the season. It fell apart at the end.”

Starks said the defense is “not close to where it needs to be. If we were close, we would be in the playoffs.”

He said beginning with the Denver game, the quality of the run defense “was all downhill from there.”

Of the defense’s play in the second half of the season, Philbin said: “We have to do better, absolutely have to do better.”

Asked how much of the problems fall on Coyle, Philbin said: “It’s on everybody. Again, football is a team game. It’s on me. I’m in charge of the football team, so if the defense isn’t playing well it’s first on me. Then the coaches and players, it’s a we operation, and we have to do better.”

Please toss Coyle in the volcano. I need something right now.

Coyle needs to go but he would simply be the sacrificial lamb.

"I need time" no Joe this is called deflecting, and passing time. Then once the mob disperses you do nothing.

Good stuff by Barry. Philbin declining to unequivocally say that Coyle is coming back is encouraging. Go get a good, young mind to run the defense.

I thought Coyle would be a lock to be back but after those last two performances I'm not so sure anymore. I believe his mandate is, above everything, do not give up big plays in the passing game. You can't really blame him too much for getting shredded by Brady but to make Geno Smith look like Joe Montana in his prime may open the door a bit to the possibility of a change.

Let's be real what up and coming assistant from a team like The Seahawks(4-3 base with 3-4 hybrid), Patriots(4-3 base with 3-4 hybrid), Cowboys, Broncos or Lions in their right mind comes here? Lame duck coach, defensive roster needs upgrades at dt, lb, and all over the secondary. Our best player is aging, and we lack serious depth. No promising assistant takes this job, so we end up with a retread or stuck with Coyle.

Why 4-3. We have players better suited to 3-4 including a 3rd overall

I don't know how many times we have to go over this...we do not have the players to make the switch to the 3-4. You people keep focusing on Jordan and completely ignore the D-line. We also have a lot of players that just wouldn't fit the 3-4 at all. Jelani Jenkins is small and wouldn't survive as an ILB in the 3-4...you can't line him up outside unless you plan on getting rid of Wake or Vernon. Vernon is borderline OLB in the 3-4 on the strong side. Misi is also not an ILB in the 3-4 or the 4-3...he's a strong side backer...Shelby is not a 3-4 OLB nor is he a DE in the 3-4. Odrick is a free agent, we have no NT, we don't have enough starters at DL or any depth at DL for the 3-4, we have no ILB in the 3-4 and not enough depth in the 3-4. Enough with the "let's just switch to the 3-4" talk please.

Considering the defense gave up 28, 41, 35 and 37 points in the last 4 games...his seat better be scorching hot right now.

Coyle, you could have played Jordan more in an aggressive manner at LB for the run game. Instead, you had him grazing in coverage or blitzing too late making him irrelevant.

A lot of good info in there. Well never know for sure on the Wallace issue. He says she says

I remember seeing a blurb with Jordan saying "he's a defensive end" but on this buzz article it gives the whole statement. "He doesn't know what position he'll be playing next year" he said playing some linebacker felt good though

Interesting hartline declined the media. Didn't wanna answer about his lackluster season

Exactamundo.

LBs define your 3-4, along with a dominant NT.

Miami's LBs + Starks/Mitchell/Odrick + Wilson and Taylor and Finnegan and Davis = the worst D in the league. Gashed by run or pass, whichever the opposing team chooses.
