## Mike Wallace returned from a hamstring injury but just briefly: Just enough time for Ryan Tannehill to overthrow him on a deep pass. The Tannehill/Wallace success rate on deep balls, so far in camp, is comparable to their awful 6 for 36 accuracy on balls of 20 plus yards last season.
“I kind of wanted to see where I was,” he said of a hamstring injury that is still bothering him a bit. “I told Coach (Joe Philbin) I wanted to get a couple of plays on deep ball. They didn’t want me to go in too fast, kind of working me back in a little bit. The two more runs I got there, I was like, ‘Shoot, I’m out here, might as well try to get some work in.’ So I just wanted to see kind of where I was at, making strides.”
Is the hamstring hurting his progress with Tannehill?

“A little bit on the deep ball it would because I can’t go as fast as I want to go, but I think we’re be all right,” he said. “I know the media has been saying that for a while, but I think he’s getting better with the deep ball It was a problem overall with everybody not just me last year. Coach (Bill) Lazor is doing a good job staying on him. He’s progressing and hopefully when I get back out there I can just go right in the stride.”
But as far as practicing them, “I’m not about to sit out here and run 20 deep balls back-to-back to try to get timing. I’m just not about to do it. Not that I don’t want to do it. It’s not healthy for my leg just to keep running deep balls trying to get a feel for it. So when we’re in practice, when we do get those reps, we’ve just got to make them count, that’s all. I think we had plenty of opportunities to do it. I think Coach (Bill) Lazor does a good job of running those plays and actually calling them in practice, so we’re able to get the feel for it.”

### Cortland Finnegan has had a terrific camp; he had three picks today (two off Ryan Tannehill, one off Matt Moore). Even with Jamar Taylor’s approvements, Finnegan has been the better play so far in camp and figures to start opposite Brent Grimes.

“He’s got a lot left in the tank,” Wallace said. “He’s a really smart guy. He knows how to play the combinations of the routes. He’s seen every combination you could possibly bring. So he’s a smart guy. I think he takes chances. Him and Brent (Grimes), they both take chances. I think they trust in their studies and their work that they believe what they see and they jump those routes sometimes and they do a good job of it.”
Grimes, by the way, had two picks today --- one off Tannehill, one off Moore.
### As we noted over the weekend, Samson Satele wouldn’t sign with the Dolphins until he got a contract like Darren Colledge’s. Here the specifics, as shared with us by someone with access to the contract: Satele, like Colledge, can make as much as $2 million. But like Colledge, only $250,000 is guaranteed.

Satele has a $1.25 million base salary, then would earn $46,875 every game he’s on the 46-man roster. So the Dolphins can save a bundle if they cut him when Mike Pouncey is healthy.

but....but....., i thought tanny was hitting EVERYBODY in stride, on the numbers, waaaay down field and it was only that sloppy, me first, over paid, lazy, diva WALLACE that he couldnt hit down field. could that info, provided by fans, might not be accurate after all? WHAAAAAT?

he put it all out there. and i am glad. you can only burn guys for 15 yds a pop down field and have your qb under or over throw almost EVERY TIME and be blamed for it and not say something at some point.

tanny is AWFUL downfield. the coaches are "staying on HIM", [tanny, not wallace] to get him straitened out throwing deep.

this weakness of tanny's is a HUGE key to our season. this offense is designed to get those big plays set up down field. but if tanny cant hit them, its not going to be pretty.

wallace is taking the high road saying tanny is improving and it will be alright, etc... . but, the camp reports are not sounding that promising with all his misses time after time after time.

good for you mike. you have taken ENOUGH abuse from the fans for all this.

If Wallace isn't 100% healthy I don't care what happens in practice when it comes to the deep ball. If he's able to run full speed and Tannehill still can't hit him then that's a big issue.

I don't blame Wallace for the under throws. I blame him for the pitiful attempts at catching them. Saw part of the 2nd Jets game the other day. Tannehill hit him in the end zone with Milliner in close coverage. Wallace tried to basket catch the ball at his waist. Ball was knocked away by Milliner. Horrible play by Wallace. One of many on the season.

also, Wallace tried to say the trouble with the deep ball was the same for all receivers but I thought the numbers show otherwise

Yea wallace to me was trying to deflect any blame. Weak

It's difficult for me to blame Mike Wallace for the struggles he had making big plays simply because I think the way Mike Sherman misused him was absolutely criminal.

If you look at his highlights from Pittsburgh -- the big, game-breaking plays -- so many of them involved Wallace moving across the field on posts or crossing routes that it continues to baffle me why we did not use him more on those routes.

The few times we tried it, he produced.

Last year, Tannehill had more underthrows to Wallace. This season I've read alot of tweets about overthrows. I like it. Let Wallace go run them down. Wallace is not going to make a physical catch on an underthrow. Wallace is going to catch up with these and we are going to hit on some of these this season. Love hearing about how Lazor is on it. He's going to nag them until we get there.

I don't have any stats but it certainly seemed that Tannehill hit the deep crossing routes much more accurately than the fly routes as well. Obviously, it's a good thing Sherman stopped doing that crap or we might have scored more points and we wouldn't want that! Thank the Lord for a new start with Lazor.

You are correct. Wallace did a fair amount of deflecting there. I think there's been a lot of talk about the deep ball and Tanny's weakness with it but really, Wallace needs to adjust to and attack the ball better as well. Most of the great ones do that.

I'm sorry, his attitude sucks. He is clearly a "me" guy. First he blames his QB for the deep connection issues:
It was a problem overall with everybody not just me last year.

Then says he doesn't want to go out and practice it:
I’m not about to sit out here and run 20 deep balls back-to-back to try to get timing. I’m just not about to do it.
Sure, he backpedals and says its not that he doesn't want to, but that it's bad for his leg... Yeah, okay, I'm not buying. I guess we don't pay him enough :rolleyes2:

How about saying something like:
As soon as my leg is 100%, even if it takes 1000 deep ball practice reps, me and RT are gonna get our timing down once and for all. ... Oh, and I'm going to try to use my hands more instead of catching every ball like I'm cradling a baby.

Admittedly, the second part was some seriously wishful thinking. However, given his attitude, I really don't expect the deep ball to be any better with him this year for any other reason than it could hardly be worse.
