2:45 p.m. Tuesday update: The Dolphins got down to 75 players by today's 4 p.m. deadline and they did that not only by cutting eight, but placing three on injured reserve: AJ Francis, who had knee surgery recently; Mike Gillislee, the 2013 fifth-round draft pick who hasn't recovered from a hamstring injury; and tight end Arthur Lynch, who ultimately was doomed by an offseason back injury.
All three will miss the entire 2014 season. One player placed on IR can be designated as a player who can return after six games, but the Dolphins didn't use that designation on any of the three.
The eight cuts: quarterback Brady Quinn, receiver Armon Binns, tight end Brett Brackett, cornerback Steven Clarke, defensive end Rakim Cox, defensive tackle Cory Grissom, center Tyler Larsen and receiver Ryan Spadola.

Ahh looks like they saved the one player that can be placed on ir but brought back after week 6...and I bet it's about making a decision on pouncey...that's the only reason you'd hold out on it...the rosters pretty healthy right now

Hoped Larsen would be a dark horse but his lack of playing time sort of signaled his fate. Binns will be swooped up, probably by Cleveland and Spadola never stood a chance. Quinn should get a shot in St Louis.. and stand a better chance of making it on the field than he ever did here. But sooner or later for him, it's off to the broadcasting booth for good.

Not particularly familiar with the others so I had no emotional rooting interest in them.

This is exactly what is going on . . . it gives Miami some flexibility to get down to 53. I think in a perfect world, Miami would like to have Pouncey available as soon as he is ready as Satele is a true stopgap / backup option that isn't ideal for the starting oline . . . however having the "short term" IR in their back pocket could be a factor in using it on Pouncey if they are really struggling on a decision to cut a player. These extra few days they probably can get a better timetable on Pouncey and make a decision come cut down day. Makes no sense to use that short term label on any of the 3 guys that were designated for the IR.

I'm not sure the IR designated for return is a 6 game thing...that's the PUP...I think IR designated for return is 8 weeks.

If I've got the roster players right I think we're down to Charles Clay, Dion Sims, Kyle Miller and Gator Hoskins at TE.

I don't think it's about struggling about a decision on whether to cut another guy or not but struggling on when pouncey will be able to help us...do we lose him for 6 weeks or take a chance with him on the active 53 from the get go that he will be fully ready prior...it's all about pouncey and when can he play...and it sounds like right now it's still up in the air...gives them 4 more days to buy time and decide...pup ir or active on the 53

Wow Gills missing a whole season through a hamstring injury, doesn't seem quite right to me.

I thought the IR designated for return after 6 weeks can be used anytime during the season. If so, its better to keep that one in your back pocket.

It's called "He was a fifth round pick that couldn't gain touches in a weak RB group last year and didn't show enough this year and probably would be in line to be cut but a hamstring injury aided so let's IR him and give him another shot next camp to see if he can crack the group".

Jason Fox should have been cut god he is horrible and even when he is not he hurts himself putting on his shoe

Well if that is the case then I agree and it's either pup or 53 decision for pouncey

Pouncey is on PUP, we can activate him starting at week 6, and not need to use the IR designated for return spot.

For what it's worth, Mike Pouncey is on the record for saying that he wants to be able to make the trip to London and play in the Raiders game at Wembley Stadium. Naturally, it all depends on the progress of his rehab, but I wouldn't underestimate his determination to meet his goal. While it's just another game to many fans, it's probably pretty exciting for the players to play in London. He's one of the boys and he wants to be there. No special trip for members of PUP.
