It was notable that during his introductory press conference Thursday, new Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph praised two players he coached with the Bengals: cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones and safety Reggie Nelson. Both are impending free agents, and expect the Dolphins to consider both.

### With the Chargers announcing they will play 2016 in San Diego, here’s where the Dolphins will play next season: Los Angeles (to meet the Rams), Seattle, San Diego, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Buffalo, New England and East Rutherford, N.J. (Jets).

Miami’s home schedule: Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Arizona, San Francisco, Tennessee, New England, Buffalo, Jets.

### New Dolphins offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen won’t get to call the plays, but he believes it’s a good idea that Adam Gase is keeping that responsibility for himself.

"I think it's how [Gase] got the head coaching job,” Christensen said. “I think a lot of those guys rise to the top because they have a knack for it. [Arizona Cardinals coach] Bruce Arians, who I've worked for a couple of times, just has a knack for calling games. I think some of the head coaches make a mistake not doing it.

“The reason that they kind of go up the ladder if you will, is because they have a knack for doing it and then all of a sudden they become an administrator, or a guy from the sideline. So I'm for it. Some guys just have a knack for it and I think Coach Gase is that, the Andy Reid's. So I'm kind of for it."

I'm sure Dolphins will request having two of the West Coast games back-to-back, but no guarantee league will do it

Jones and Nelson are both VG players. They would make Joseph's job easier and to the Ross quick fix, which I believe we will see.

The team is asking the NFL to schedule two of those west coast trips back-to-back. And if the NFL complies, as it sometimes does with special schedule requests from clubs, the Dolphins then intend to stay on the west coast the week between those games, per a club source.

So, for example, if the Dolphins are scheduled to play the Rams and Chargers back-to-back, they would not fly back to Miami after the Los Angeles game and then return to San Diego for that game. The Dolphins would instead stay in Southern California after the Rams game, practice there that week, and play the Chargers the following weekend.

It is possible the two back-to-back west coast trips are Seattle and one of the Southern California games. Well, the Dolphins would make the NFL's longest trek on the American continent -- from South Florida to Seattle -- and then go onward to or from Seattle rather than return to Miami.

The decision to do it this way is quite logical. The Dolphins believe flying west and staying there is better for their players physically than flying west, flying east, then returning west again. It's a competitive advantage decision.

Obviously staying out west will put strains on the team's logistical crew. Miami will have to carry enough equipment for two games and a week of practice rather than just one game. The team will also have to find a training site for a week.

But this is not unprecedented. In November 2004, the Dolphins requested and got their scheduled games at Seattle and San Francisco in back-to-back weeks. The Dolphins flew from South Florida to Seattle, lost 24-17 to the Seahawks, and then flew directly to San Francisco where they practiced for a week, celebrated Thanksgiving, and played the 49ers the following Sunday. Miami beat San Francisco 24-17 that Sunday, on the back end of an extended stay away from home.

So Christensen is doing what philbin did in GB, it landed him a HC gig off of mccartys playcalls, lets see if Christensen can be so lucky. I'm super excited about Jones AND nelson being mentioned, that's amazing news if we could bring them in. Like HUGE!!

"Vontaze Burfict, Pacman Jones commit two personal fouls to give Steelers game-winner"
Unfortunately this is what comes to mind when I hear Pacmans name..

That was my first thought with all these west coast trips- hope they can schedule two back to back...

Both players are complete **** heads. I want nothing to do with Pacman Jones. I'd rather get Leon Hall here instead of Pacman.

I dont want choir boys but I agree esp when you are talking about paying them decent money. Some people bemoan that Incognito is not here and Im definately not one of them. He isnt so good that you can overlook his idiotic and possibly criminal behavior.
One could make an argument for better or worse on Brandon Marshall because he was playing at a high level, Incognito was never that good as a dolphin regardless of PFF

I always like the idea of the HC calling plays

he also played well. Something none of our corners appear capable of

Joseph know these two better than all here combined after coaching them and them doing a VG job. I would trust him on this one/two.

Enter new defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. The former Cincinnati Bengals defensive backs coach was hired by Dolphins rookie head coach Adam Gase to turn a struggling defense into a successful one.

Joseph, who will keep a 4-3 scheme but is making tweaks to better the defense, is confident in the talent already on the team.

"We've watched probably half the season from last year and most of the pieces are in house," Joseph said this week. "Obviously acquiring more pieces, it's always important for your schematics. But in-house right now, we've got some pieces to work with. Obviously defensive end Cameron Wake and Suh and safety Reshad Jones, that's front line NFL starters."

One of Joseph's main priorities is getting the most out of Suh. Miami invested $114 million in Suh last year, but he wasn't as dominant as he was with the Detroit Lions, and much of that is on poor coaching and scheme from the former staff.

Suh finished with 61 tackles and six sacks in his first season in Miami. The Dolphins' defense will improve overall if Suh is put in better positions to dominate.

"He's an inside player so that's always tough because offensively they can kind of double team him every play. So it's tough for him watching the film," Joseph said. "He's requiring two or three blockers every play so sometimes it's hard for him to kind of have an impact on the game. But obviously he's a dominant guy. We can use his reputation to kind of help us on defense. But you know watching a guy, he's big, he's fast, he's explosive but he's requiring double teams every play. So for him to get off, it's tough."

This is what the coaching staff and talent failed to do last year. With the attention given to Suh, we failed to attack. If Suh is getting that attention, we need talent to take advantage of that. Once teams see this, they are forced to come a bit away from Suh and pick up the other players allowing Suh to do his damage. Our crap staff and the fact no one stepped up made it look like Suh was blah last year when he really was very productive given the circumstances.

It was, like the entire year, a major facepalm

The only thing I love about Gase is he is calling his own plays. I don't recall any Dolphin HC who called his own plays.
