The Dolphins, needing two new starting tackles, likely will add at least one in free agency (Kansas City’s Branden Albert figures to draw interest) and potentially one in the draft. The Dolphins hadn't reached out to free agent Bryant McKinnie's agent, as of early this week, to express interest or arrange a meeting --- unlike agents for several other of their free agents.
ESPN's Mel Kiper said Notre Dame left tackle Zack Martin, who can play every line position, would "be a real good pick for Miami” at No. 19. NFL Network’s Mike Mayock said Martin or Alabama left tackle CyrusKouandjio would make sense at 19, but both Kiper and Mayock said Kouandjio was inconsistent, with Mayock noting his last appearance in the Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma "was a really bad game."

“You can go three, four rounds deep and get a starting offensive tackle,” Mayock said, listing Morgan Moses (Virginia), Jack Mewhort (Ohio State), Brandon Thomas (Clemson) and Joel Bitonio (Nevada) as second-round options.

The depth of line they mention is why I'm much more interested in BPA at 19 instead of forcing the issue with Martin or CK. If Mosely or Ebron were sitting there I'd have a tough time passing them up knowing I could still get one of the others mentioned next round.

Branden Albert is a great way to start FA.

I really hope we don't end up having to go OL in the first round....again.

Thanks for the article link jim1.

Yep, there are a lot of good OT prospects in this draft and I think you can realistically get a decent RT in round 3, but 4 will be stretching it for sure. Personally, I'd love to get a RT like Mewhort in round 2 or 3 and my favorite pick would be James Hurst in round 3, as I think he can legitimately play LT once he heals up. THAT'S the guy I really want outside of round 1.

In round 1, I'd trade up to try and get Taylor Lewan, who is probably as good as any of the top tier OT's at pass protection and could be a good LT. Robinson has awesome physical skill, but he's a projection and looks more like a RT to me. Matthews looks solid, but he'll be gone as well and I think Lewan might be better as a LT when it's all said and done.

Lewan is sliding under the radar atm, as are Kouandijo and Moses IMHO, but those guys are all talented dudes. Moses has the tools but is raw and not as physical as Greg Robinson. If Moses refines his pass pro skills he has the ability to be excellent at it. He'll never be as physically dominating in the run game as Robinson though.

Kouandijo is a good combo OT, but he needs work on pass pro and might be forced to RT because of it. He'll rise up draft boards before draft day though, he's too good physically and had too many good games to ignore.

Zack Martin may be the buzz pick, but I still see him as an elite OG. As an OT he lacks length, and without those long levers I simply cannot see him ever becoming elite. That leaves him as a RT who isn't as powerful of a drive blocker as most RT's ... so he's a bit of a tweener to me.

Love the guy, he is a great blocker, but he'll never be a dominant LT or RT ... so move him to LG and he might be the next Logan Mankins. Great for a ZBS with flexibility to fill in anywhere along the line, durability, quickness, heavy hands, good knee bend, etc. Good all around prospect.

But, we need to draft 3 of our first 4 picks at OL and also bring in a couple of veterans. That's my $0.02

The guard play was perhaps worse than the tackles last year. It is just as much of a need.

if we get our left tackle in free agency who cares take zach martin still at #19...if his arms measure out longer than they did senior bowl week possibly to it being done incorrectly you are gonna have a serious time of him getting to #19...if those arms come in longer and teams say he's a left tackle as a result with no concerns about his length gonna be dicey he gets there

we don't need special although he has that kind of potential be it at tackle or guard but what we can't have is flat disasters...zach martin won't be that...and he might be a monster

he blows away all the other options i saw at the senior bowl i can tell ya that...plays with great leverage and technique good feet turns guys in the run game routinely...make the smart pick and add to your versatility with a zach martin...he will be a key cog in your oline somewhere

i went back and watched 5 of martins games to make sure i wasn't seeing a maxed out player and his senior bowl work all week and the game and while he was better at tackle than guard in the game i have no doubts if kicked inside he would pick it back up quickly and be a part of the solution

his tape is really damn good...dominated guys...backs cutting right off his backside in the run game after he's turned the edge contain defender completely sideways...toying with a lot of guys...made aaron donald of pitt look like just a guy...trent murphy of stanford is still having nightmares of how much martin dominated him...senior bowl one on one reps he took murphy and depositied him in another zip code...took michael sams one pass rush move and tossed him like a rag doll...strong as hell a bull really at tackle...anchors well...

high character guy...sign me up...good awareness head on a swivel

How about Albert, Martin, Pouncey, Wade Smith, Strief?

I like getting the LT in FA because it frees up the draft somewhat. I do not need an OG off the bat. I am very interested in Calvin Pryor as well as Martin.

It's time to put some "needs" into our draft. Best player available should not be the strategy this year.

well with the case of zach martin if he is there i'm pretty confident that we would be going a bpa route anyways...a couple other position guys i'd like to have also but grade wise martin validates the pick...at least for how i see it

but yeah some people i guess won't learn...they don't fix this oline it's not gonna matter what we do this offseason...we are toast
