Some Wednesday Dolphins tidbits:

Though the Dolphins remain hopeful that receiver DeVante Parker will be available for the regular-season opener Sept. 13 at Washington, Parker was non-committal on Wednesday, while adding that he is about where he expected as he works his way back from June foot surgery.

Parker was dressed for practice on Wednesday but did not participate. He is now able to run at full speed, without discomfort, on that surgically-repaired left foot and said he believes he is close to being cleared for practice.

“I don’t have a timetable right now,” he said. “They don’t want me rushing back.” But the foot “is feeling pretty good.”

Coach Joe Philbin said “the reports are positive” on Parker’s foot. “We would love to see him get out here as quickly as we can.”

Asked if he can contribute immediately if he doesn’t play in preseason, Parker said: “That’s the plan but you never know.”

Parker said he’s “really excited to return. When I was out here for OTAs, we had a good connection with [Ryan Tannehill]. I’m looking forward to being back out there again with all of them.”

### Besides Parker, three others sat out practice on Wednesday: offensive tackle Jason Fox (concussion), cornerback Jamar Taylor (thigh) and linebacker Jordan Tripp (ankle). Taylor expects to be ready by the regular-season opener, if not sooner.

### Amid Fox’s concussion and Branden Albert still working his way back from knee surgery, the Dolphins this week gave left guard Dallas Thomas a lot of snaps at left tackle.

Thomas, the strong front-runner to start at left guard in the regular-season opener, could be Miami’s best option at left tackle on Saturday against Atlanta, even though Thomas allowed seven sacks when he played tackle last season.

Jamil Douglas would play left guard in that scenario, with Billy Turner at right guard. Turner, competing with Douglas to start at right guard, said he has been getting a lot but not all of the first-team snaps at right guard in practice.

### Albert, who was fully involved in Tuesday’s practice for the first time since the knee injury, said he made it through unscathed.

“It felt good,” he said. “It wasn’t perfect, but it’s going to come with time. I didn’t expect to be perfect. I was lagging; guys are moving faster than me. But it was productive… [and] as long as I’m not hurting…”

Albert said he doesn’t know if he will be ready for the opener and must be 100 percent before he’s comfortable playing in a game. But the Dolphins remain optimistic that will happen.

### Koa Misi said he lined up at strong-side linebacker on Tuesday, with Kelvin Sheppard getting the first-team snaps at middle linebacker and Jelani Jenkins at weakside.

Chris McCain, who had been competing for a starting job at strong-side linebacker, said he got no first-team work at linebacker Tuesday.

“It’s still open [competition],” McCain said. “I had a rough first two games. I have to execute more.”

Misi played outside linebacker for Miami before shifting to middle linebacker in 2014. “I told coaches I will play anywhere.”

### Though the Dolphins had some interest in Denver-bound guard Ethis Mathis, Philbin made clear that Miami likes the players it has at that position.

“There are implications of every decision and we always do in our minds what’s best for the organization,” Philbin said. “We feel good about the players we have on our roster.”

Wanna see Chris McCain be more active in this next game. Hate to write him off as just a small role pass rusher but he's gotta do better.

I do think the trio of Jenkins/Sheppard/Misi is the "best" three we have at LB and all 3 fit best in the spots the team has them in.

Thi freaking OL problems has lingered on too damn long...fiz it already!!!!!

McCain has stated that he got into a bad mental state last year and it led to his drop off. It looks like that might have already happened this year. His mental development is going to slow down his progress the most and it's possible it may entirely derail it. I certainly hope not though since he has loads of potential and the position is his for the taking.

Was there a diagnosis on Tripp's ankle injury? Does anyone know what it is or if there was a timetable given?

Passing on Mathis really shows we have an extreme dedication to developing our own. Philbin likes players he's comfortable with. Hope it pays off. I have enough respect for Hickey's abilities to gauge talent that I believe it might.

Alex Marvez mentioned that the Dolphins front office deserves the benefit of doubt by passing on signing veteran G Evan Mathis.

“If it doesn’t work out with Dallas Thomas or Jamil Douglas or Billy Turner, then the Miami Dolphins’ front office is gonna get second-guessed,” Marvez said on the Joe Rose Show, “but you have to have some faith in these guys. This has been a pretty good offseason. They’ve done a good job in so many different ways there. I mean let’s cut them some slack. They just simply didn’t want to pay $4 million in one year to get this guy in the fold. That was it and I can understand. And this was also too cleaning up some of the mess that was left behind. There’s about $20 million in dead money on the Dolphins’ cap and maybe more than that.”

Interestingly enough, Marvez didn’t rule out the possibility of the Dolphins making a “low-level” trade at some point.

“Let’s just remember this too: Joe, this doesn’t mean there isn’t the possibility of a trade, a low-level trade maybe, but a trade,” Marvez added. “It isn’t like this is the last guard who is ever gonna be available in the National Football League this year. I mean the Dolphins can make a move.”

as for Parker, at this point what's the point in rushing him? The WR's and QB have had a good camp. Him coming back at whatever week is just going to be gravy

PArker won't be rushed back...it is not needed...that doesn't mean he won't play, but as hoops has said, they will ease him in with specific packages the way the did Landry...though I think Landry was a little more ready then most rookie WR's so you may not see the payoff as early as we did with Landry last season.

I like Eagle and Fouts. Steve Tasker is dreadful.

not mentioned, I think Ajai has to play for his life this week

I think he's safe . . . in fact, I think all 4 of the 5th rounders are making this team.

I was never really big on Ajayi, but he's certainly got some talent and kind of play the role of DW's backup where Lemike fits more in the realm of Lamar Millers backup.

McCain has every opportunity to take SLB. And he has Jordan's horrible example to motivate him. Some guys just don't get it. He will be the next disgruntled employee giving access to Omar.
