Carroo has had a good camp and the Dolphins are eager to see more.

"He's been doing good,” Gase said. “He's been making some positive plays. His biggest thing is mentally, what are we going to do? Is he going to keep growing? Are we going to get stuck? Are we going to have that rookie wall hit? He's going to keep rolling on that."

• You know who else has impressed me? Safety Walt Aikens, who on consecutive plays today stopped a running play in the backfield and then picked off Brandon Doughty.

“He's been doing a good job,” Gase said. “Obviously we know his value on special teams as well. The fact that he's showing up at safety as well, that's a bonus. We know we've got a guy that when we put him in on defense, he's going to make plays."

Aikens raised his weight from 205 to 220 and said “that’s a good weight for me. I’m feeling a lot stronger, a lot more power in my hips. Last year was a rough year for me so I had to make up for it on special teams.”

Aikens said defensive coordinator Vance Joseph “likes my size, my speed, my athleticism. He wants me to key in on the little things and said I’ll be fine.”

• The Dolphins would love if Jakeem Grant can seize the punt and kickoff return jobs.

When I asked Jarvis Landry if he wants to keep his hand in returns this season, he said: “I’m the starting returner so we’ll see how many reps I get in preseason. I will be excited to see what Jakeem Grant and other guys can do there.”
What would be the ideal amount of returns for him to do this season? “I don’t think there’s a number on it,” Landry said. “Like I told coaches, it gives me the opportunity to get the ball in my hands and make a play. It creates some energy.”

220 lbs aikens...you better freaking tackle boss...don't let aikens make the secondary calls...that was brutal last year...

the only safety that tackled worth a hoot in 2015 in the regular defense (non specials) was reshad

and well shamiel gary looked like he might tackle in the limited run he got

turns out Zach vigils back may be more of a kryptonite than his hips...

Leave Jarvis on PR and place Grant on KR. I honestly don't see what's so hard about those two decisions. If we're are playing they have to earn it game then sure let them(cough cough) earn it!

Carroo is going to be very solid. He is a very good insurance policy on DVP. Though not similar skill set, Carroo is very much a game changer.

Even with the wide 9 I wonder if they'll get Dion Jordan's weight down a bit and use him at SOLB, so many good DE's and so few OLB's.

Please god no... it has been shown that he should only rush the passer... while he is not the worst in coverage... to have him do anything but rush the passer will only yield substandard results.

I don't think so. He can rush, cover and play the run as an OLB, his kryptonite is lining straight up against OTs where they destroy him. Wide 9 helps that, gives him more room, but if he isn't playing in space, covering and rushing with straight shots to the QB (blitzes, etc.) as opposed to fighting OT's in the trenches, then the team wasted that #3 overall pick.

I hedge on that with one variable, how he plays in the wide 9, but then there's another problem- we're loaded with DE's and light on OLB's. I hope that Jordan takes the recuperation time to drop some weight, maybe down to 265 lbs, and get going at OLB.

.....whaaaaaa?

I'm with jim

It's really cool to stop and think that our previous coaching staff had an incredible athlete drafted #3 overall and then told him to put on 40 pounds.
