Sparano learned a lot from Parcells. One thing he learned is to treat each player like a seperate and unique individual who responds best to a certain way of coaching. They know how to get the most out of their players and some will respond better to a pat on the back and encouragement than an all out slamming using the media as a medium.
I literally just picked up a book for an informative report I'm doing on Parcells called "Parcells: A Biography" and on the back it has a quote by Harry Carson (NY Giants linebacker back in the day) that goes like this:
"He was always coaching, every minute. He was yelling, screaming, chewing out some people, calling them names, making fun of them. Others he would pat on the butt and praise them. He knew exactly what he could do with each player, what makes that player tick."
I know that Sparano isn't a Parcells clone but I also know Bill takes pride in everything that has his name associated with it and wouldn't want a coach who doesn't follow his basic principles to take over his team.
