Spread offense

Pat white is getting more hype than the #1 overall pick. Matt Stafford is doing well, and, expected to start every game maybe this year..Maybe at the latest, next year. Still, Pat White is getting pop.

I guess he must be really unreal...All the same experts we call idiots on a daily basis say we won't win the AFC East? Dummies. Those same idiots give some love to White?

They go from "Idiot" to "Insightful" in one fell swoop.

ETA; Not banging on you, Kev. Not my intent.

nice article, i like the last sentence:

" the word is spreading " lol

and i couldn't agree more... i think the nfl could benefit a whole lot from implementing the spread offence, i don't know if white will be succesful, or tebow, or grothe, whoever it may be, but those guys have a special skill set that can be very dangerous. It's also very entertaining and those types of offences have put up a lot of points in the ncaa, god knows people love a high scoring game so it's a win-win situation from that standpoint...

The key word is entertaining. Miami has too be #1 on the list. But can they win? We shall see.....

good article. I agree with the part about how the QB needs to be a passer first with the ability to run. Pat White ran for more yards as a QB than anyone in college history but he can't rely on running in the NFL. accurate passes and good decisions are what he needs to develop, especially if he is going to be a red-zone specialist (thank goodness he is learning from Pennington).

I'm not certain that the point of the article was to hype White even more... The truth is I think White gets so much attention because we drafted him. Period. I think people are more intrigued with the reasoning behind it then the actual pick. I may be wrong.

But as the article effectively points out it is clear in our case that White WAS picked for his potential in the spread and the WC... He was picked high for his value as a utility player which is not a first... but the fact that this utility player is a QB just might be.

We had the 2nd best performance from the QB position in the entire league last year... We have a widely hyped strong armed young kid who the FO is VERY HIGH on waiting in the wings...We didn't need a QB in the draft... Still don't. Which is probably exactly why you hated the pick... Redundant most naysayers agree...

They took him because they like athletes... More importantly they love athletes who are diverse... Pat White is the ultimate homage to that thinking...

Attacking defenses with more than one QB during a game is an interesting notion... You have seen it work time and again, when the starting QB cannot move the chains and then suddenly when the backup takes the snaps he slices and dices Benihana style... Same defence... Only difference is another guy behind center... So why can't this work as a 'philosophy' as well?

I think the Dolphins and alot of other teams are asking that same question...

Still dont see the NFL going to a designated special teams qb, I mean if you have Tom Brady you are going to take him off the field for Pat white? e may do it this year and some other teams will try it but puting a lesser qb out there because he can run is a recipe for losing.

a spread offense isn't just using a "running QB". it's more about receivers, spacing and matchups. a "passing QB" can run it too, the article talks about new england using spread formations with Brady and Cassel. that's why I believe it's not how Pat White runs, it's how he throws that will determine if he can run the spread in Miami.

on the other hand, the wildcat does need the threat of a capable runnner and passer to be successful. last year Ronnie couldn't pass so teams clogged the running lanes and stopped it. this year might be a different story. Pat White supposed to be that dual threat and if he can do here what he did in college it's going to be a lot of fun(for us) to watch.
