"I wish there had been a big-time opening during my second year in Washington," he said. "I would have left in a heartbeat."

How shocking, another quitter symphathizes with Saban, yeah no kidding Steve, its alot easier to look like a genius at the amatuer level where its easy to exploit mismatches, at a level where 90 something percent of players aren't good enough to play at the professional level.

 That's pretty funny.

He was just being honest, he worked under the most meddlesome owner of them all, plus he liked to spend more time playing golf than game planning.

He's just like Saban, they both have the ego of NFL coaches, but not the mental toughness & desire.

"I think Nick Saban is sick of (the NFL)," said Spurrier, who left Washington after two years. "When we were all growing up, we'd think that someday we'd coach in the NFL. You go there and you realize it's not what you thought it would be. In college, you work for two people -- the athletic director and the president. And they don't tell you who to play, they don't come to practice, they don't recruit for you."

The football coaching world is coming apart at the seams...Sounds like college is the better job. Spurrier could have also added " And you don't over-pay college players to put the uniform on,stink up the field & go 6-9."
Money is ruining the game...There is no incentive to perform anymore.

The NFL is not the pretigious job that it used to be for head coaches. The players are running that show now.

This is amazing. The one good thing about the Spurrier debacle was that he quit (or was deposed or whatever) very quickly. My Redskins fan friends were celebrating, and that was even before they heard they'd get Gibbs back. Now it seems Stevie is upset that he couldn't make the sort of mess out of it all that Nick did. Brilliant.

College is the easier job, thats for sure, in college you get to play schools that shouldn't even be on the same field with your team when your a Spurrier or Saban.

In the NFL the teams are on a level playing field, so the coaches that think they are gods like Saban and Spurrier don't like it.

Don't expect college to stay like it is though, when we've reached a point that colleges can pay coaches 4 million plus per year, it won't be long before the players start getting payed as well.
