The 2006-07 NBA season tips off Tuesday night. The Heat are the defending champs, but they will face plenty of competition for their crown, as the Mavs, Spurs, Suns, Pistons, Nets, Cavs, Rockets, Bulls and Clippers lead the pack of clubs that will try to dethrone Dwyane Wade & Co.

To help set the stage, we present our preseason Power Rankings. This list represents how we see the teams stacking up on paper going into the season. Once the season starts, we'll start ranking teams on their performances.

Meanwhile, if you're looking for individual rankings, check out SI.com's Kelly Dwyer's initial Player Power Rankings:

OMG i can't wait for the game tonight, i have never anticipated an NBA season more, not only because the heat are defending champs, but there are so many goods teams and this is just going to be a good season

The top 10 looks alright except Houston. Every season it seems that Houston is a team that is on the verge and every season the same thing happens to McGrady and Yao misses time.
