I spoke with a stadium official about some of the changes that are being done to our stadium. I was told that along with all the cocesions and added seats, that in 2 more yrs they were talking about putting a roof on it. Does anybody have any knowlege of this? And if we add a roof what would the pros and cons be? I would assume that for shade purposes it would be great!

I would imagine a retractable roof would only be closed for storms. If they close it in September due to the heat, I will tenderize a 15 lb bluefish upside wayne's head.

If we get the roof all we have to focus on is improving the field condition.

I think they had had articles about this in both the Sun Sentinel and the Herald a year or two ago about three phases that the stadium would be going through and that they would likely be adding a retractible roof for rain days and so the stadium could hold other events, and some kind of high rise press box/suites tower along one of the sides.

I highly doubt they'd close the roof on those nice hot humid days since that is one advantage we have that no one else can lay claim to...

Adding a roof takes away from the natural part of a football game. It is meant to be played in the elements NOT indoors!!!! A roof is just plain stupid. We need a team that can learn how to play in rain and on sloppy fields. By adding a roof we'd only have a team who would know how to play on a dry field in 72 degree temperatures. You people need to see how stupid it really is!!!

I agree that is what makes football king. I love it when they are playing in the slop and snow.

I think the superbowl should make it around to all the teams in the league not just the warm/dome teams. The press is a big reason they dont play the superbowl in crappy weather locations. That was all the bitchin about detroit a couple years ago aww its cold outside blah blah blah.

You don't see teams like the Patriots having a dome because it's too cold for fans in the winter. Dolphin fans need to toughen up. Geez, keep hydrated and cheer your phins on for 3 hours then go to your car and get in the air conditioning. It's not like you're sitting in the heat for a week!!!

if that's true, lol @ waiting until the marlins leave before putting on a dome that they desperately want

I havent heard anyhting concrete on a roof, but i have gone to some marlins games this year, and the stadium is looking NICE! Cant wait till its all said and done.
If the Marlins are leaving, a roof is not a big deal.

No, people complained because Detroit is not a fun place.

The Super Bowl isn't just a game. It's a week-long event. Celebrities, parties, etc, etc. It's a big thing. And you need a place that can support it. Jacksonville had no business having the game and neither did Detroit. People were bored out of their skulls in Jax. Detroit, lets face it, is not the brightest of places.

Do you think the game should ever be in Buffalo or Green Bay??

IMO, we should have a steady rotation of Miami, Atlanta, San Diego, Tampa and New York. Perhaps Dallas or Houston. You have to have a team to get the game. So Los Angeles is out until they get one.

As for the retractable roof, if it means no rain during the Super Bowl, I'm all for it.

Heck, when it pours down rain, the Phins games are largely empty. We had a friggin monsoon during the Ravens game in 2000. As a result, only a handful of people got to see Dan's number being retired at halftime (national TV game). It poured during the Jets MNF game on Christmas. And nobody saw Richmond Webb go into the Ring of Honor.

And many times you end up getting sick thereafter. I'd say I've gotten sick 50 percent of the games I went to where it poured. Dog sick for a week after Dan's game.

I'll go regardless. But I'll be honest, if there's a roof during bad rains, I'm much more enthused about going. And I'll bet there's a lot more people in the stands.

We need a dome. I went to the Jets game last christmas wen it was pouring down rain, There was no one at the stadium and the game was no fun.

Huizenga had 3 phases for the stadium upgrade.

The potential for a dome, and things of that nature were discussed as possibilities for phase 3. However, basically everything I've read stated that they would need to wait until the Marlins are out(2010) to have enough time to actually do that.

I was there too, the reason it was no fun was we lost. When Zack laid out Coles... ouch. I heard it in the 400's.

What Wayne should do is to make it so the fans can sit closer to the field. I've been to a lot of stadiums over the years and Dolphin Stadium is one of the "least intimate" and one of the worst for a "home team advantage" due to crowd noise.

I think the main reason they would add a retractable roof would be because of the fans, not the players. I've heard plenty of people say they have tickets and don't go to the games simply because of the heat and getting sunburned, etc. Hard to believe for us die hard fans, but true. You've noticed the empty seats haven't you? They probably just go to a sports bar or watch it at home on their HDTV.

Gotta admit, there's probably a lot of seniors in South Florida with tickets that can't handle the heat. Plenty of families with little kids too. There's not enough 20 and 30 year old diehard fans in South Florida with the money and ability to deal with that heat and other bad weather apparently. I would love to see that stadium jam packed with die hard young people who yell their heads off for the Dolphins. It would be more like a college game.

Other teams in the southern states have faced that reality and built new stadiums with roofs like the Arizona Cardinals did. Dallas can be hot in September and October too ... Jerry's building a billion dollar stadium with a retractable roof. Houston has a fairly new stadium with a roof. Houston has the same heat and maybe more humidity than Miami does ... plenty of smog too. If Dolphin Stadium did get a retractable roof, I would only want it closed when the weather, the sun and outside temperature are just too much for fans to deal with ... say on clear days when it's 85 or above and NO clouds at all. Gotta admit, that's when it gets like a frying pan out there.
