"In addition to Randy Moss and Asante Samuel, the Patriots have WR Jabar Gaffney, LB Tedy Bruschi, LB Junior Seau, LB Larry Izzo, and CB Randall Gay headed for unrestricted free agency.

With Donte' Stallworth a likely cut, the Pats will try to retain Gaffney. Seau had been expected to retire, but his solid play may have him reconsidering. Gay is versatile and would make sense with old coordinator Eric Mangini. Bruschi plans to reevaluate his body and desire to play after the season."

Does anyone think Stallworth is realistic and worth it? What about Gaffney? Sorry if this was posted already.

i think the only reason they had solid years is because the team they were on and the talent that surrounded them. love those UF receivers, but gaffney isnt that good at all in the nfl. stallworth is a speedster that doesnt run great routes and doesnt block all that well, so he is pretty much a career #2 receiver. and we probably already have one of those in ginn, so it wouldnt make a lot of sense. we need a big, physical receiver with decent speed and great hands as our #1 guy, and neither of those guys are. we do need depth at WR though, so if something can be done cheaply, id be all for it - because both of those guys are young.

not interested. only FA WR i would want is B Johnson. Maybe J Porter. I'd be interested in C Johnson via a trade or R Wiliams via a trade with DET. One of those four.

pts on gaffney
gaffney is the blocking WR used this year by the pats
gaffney had better numbers inthe playoff last year then marvin harrison and wayne.more yards and catches. He played against cadwell on the other side.
gaffney has the same numbers with more TD then stallworth at 1/10th the price.

receiver group
1)you need a hot read slot receiver to help a qb,save the ol from beatup and tackle the speed rushers to slow down.some one who can work the zone and fast will be great.
2) Some one who can run in the seam and take a hit.

2 pts gaffney led the league WR numbers last year against cadwell and also is the blocking WR in running game.He is cheap is making less than a million now.

but gaffney on another team and he'd suck worse than he does now. no thanks

eh, no thanks. Neither one of them are serious upgrades. Id rather build up our WR core throught he draft over the next few seasons than sign either of these guys. Gaffney was basically nothing in Jags, and that team is and was a better team we are so rest assured he would be totally nothing here.

If we are going to go after WR's we should go after players who could actually help like Roy Williams or Larry Fitz type players. Not second tier players like stallworth and even worse, Gaffney.

Pats actually like Gaffney.... He'll make the team next year, Stallworths contract goes sky high next season, he may be gone.... Chad Jackson will be fightening for a spot on the pats. Pats will make a deal for Moss....he loves playin with Brady

although I'm not fond of either player they would be an upgrade. We only will have Ginn and hagan and pure crap behind them. booker is gone so yeah they would be an upgrade over our backups and no worse than some of our starters.

Im saying IMO it would be worth more for us to go after a higher priced player and give up a draft pick than to sign either one of these guys for free. nothing about them gets me excited. They would be just another couple of teir 2 or 3 players starting on a bad team which IMO is not a equation for success

Why sour for Stallworth. If I were a football player and the Pats wanted me I wouldv'e signed with them too. Don't blame the receiver for choosing them over the Fins.

Stallworth is not what we need. We need a big target with adequate speed.
