Eagles | Team unlikely to re-sign Stallworth before free agency starts
Sun, 21 Jan 2007 12:47:21 -0800
Reuben Frank, of PhillyBurbs.com, reports <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/29/nfl">Philadelphia Eagles general manager Tom Heckert said the team is unlikely to re-sign WR Donte' Stallworth before free agency starts. Heckert said, "If he's healthy, he's a really good player. I think that will be kind of a wait-and-see deal because I don't think even he knows what he's worth. Getting him done before free agency, that's probably not going to happen. There's not a whole lot of wide receivers out there. It's tough to gauge. When he's healthy, he's a good player. People are going to say the same thing — if he's injured (often), how much are you going to pay him? But he's young and he's fast. He's really fast. I think he'll probably end up signing a pretty good contract somewhere. If you look at last year, those (2006 free agents) got huge money and they were just OK guys."

Bengals | Team may place franchise tag on J. Smith

<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/127">Geoff Hobson, of Bengals.com, reports the Cincinnati Bengals may consider placing the franchise tag on DE Justin Smith when free agency opens.

yea, i don't think another #2 reciever in our huge stable of #2 recievers is necessary.

Dontae is better known as "The human Hamstring". You dont want him here..he'd drive you nuts

Of all the free agents out there, I would rather have Welker then Stallworth, Stallworth has two problems, first, he drops way too many passes, and second, if he stubs his toe, he may play, but always limited.

Just say no, he was traded from NO for a reason. I am sure Philly understands why now.

You really need to check into a mental institution. Do you have sensual feelings for Welker? For anyone to make such a statement...:shakeno:

Thanks for your input, I see you put alot of thought into your comment. Congrats.

This team does not need a #1 or #2 reciever, heck, Hagan can even play the slot. Give me Welker at a reduced price instead of overpaying for a over hyped wide reciever in Stallworth.

I look forward to your next thoughtful post. :sidelol:

Speed kills. Sign me up for bringing in Stallworth.

Make him the #2 or #3 WR and give that speed a chance @ KR/PR.

Steinbach coming here would be a great pickup and he plays a much needed postion on this team.

True the guy has missed 50% of his NFL career with problems with the same hammy problem.

I'd rather use the money to re-sign Welker and Booker.

Well, we don't need to re-sign Booker, he's still under contract. Randy Mueller said that they would like to upgrade their speed at WR. Now, that means one of two things. It means letting Welker go and getting a fast #3 WR who can be groomed to replace Booker down the road. Or, it means cutting Booker, and finding a starting caliber WR. Realistically, I would say letting Welker go and replacing him with a young WR is probably what will happen. The draft is shaping up as a very strong one for WR. We could take Ted Ginn in the first round. He'd be an immediate deep threat, as well as a potential game-breaking kick/punt returner. Or, we could trade down in round 1 and maybe land Robert Meachem. Either way, if Mueller is serious about upgrading speed at WR, then it is highly unlikley that both Booker and Welker will be on the team in 2007.

Oops you're right, all the early season talk about cutting Booker screwed with my thinking:mad:

Stallworth finally showed this year what he is capable of. To completely dismiss him based on his history would be a mistake. If we can bring him in as a possible #2, sign him up with no questions asked. He was easily worth that this year.

screw Stallworth. Guys only good at running down field as fast as he can. I want my receivers to be able to actually perform routes and shake defenders. Stallworths fast, sure. But hes just not a very good receiver.
