So we are pretty strong at tackles and center with Jake Long at left tackle, Vernon Carey at right tackle and Jake Grove at center, but what about the guards, are Justin Smiley and Donald Thomas the answer?

How would you grade our O-Line overall?

I think carey is the weakest link. I have watched a few games over this offseason and I started noticing just how much he got pushed back and beat... which was alot more often than I would have imagined.

i would say, as a grade, about a B+. not an A only because of smiley's injury history and question mark at RG. i guess thomas will be it though.

Donald Thomas missed nearly is only NFL season with an injury. Smiley had yet another season ending injury. Jake Grove has an injury history. Our backups, Alleman and ND are marginal at best. What do you think their grade should be. Before grading, take a look at ND being shot putted into Ronnie in the Ravens game. I would rate us anywhere from a B to a D, depending. I think it's a great line if they can all stay healthy, which only Long and Carey have proven to this point.

I am expecting Berger to be one of the surprises of camp, I think he is going to challenge the recovering Smiley for his position.

I think the likely depth chart going into camp will look like this:

RT Carey Garner
RG Thomas Ndukwe
OC Grove Alleman
LG Berger Smiley
LT Long Gardner

I can foresee a scenario that could produce this opening day lineup:

RT Runyan
RG Carey Thomas Ndukwe
OC Grove Alleman
LG Berger Smiley
LT Long Gardner

Smiley is a piss poor run blocker, and Thomas may be strong but has yet to prove himself in games. We all know the knock on Grove. I'd give us a D- in run blocking and B in pass protection.

So we paid Carey a ton of money to be a RG.. hmmm

If Runyan can come back from the microfracture in time for camp, I simply think that having him at RT and Carey at RG will result in a better oline.

I disagree, Runyan has been playing on his last leg for the past 3-4 seasons, he just lost that last leg last year, hes been beaten and battered, used and abused, I think i would like to keep Carey at RT (better then RT then Runyan now) and see what Donald Thomas has to offer.

Actually, he's not a piss poor run blocker....He's a piss poor drive blocker. I saw him make numerous excellent blocks on running plays when he pulled and was playing in space.
