Looking at this past offseason it looks like Sparano may be part of another dreadful season. We have very few veterans on both sides of the ball, lost the heart and sould of this team on defense, and have inexperienced WR's, our only "star" on offense is coming back from a torn up knee.. Let's not even discuss our QB situation, which almost makes me long for the Jay Fiedler years.

I was looking at JJ in Dallas back in 89' and they were able to draft a franchise QB in Aikman and picked up another playmaker in Michael Irvin.. So even as people were calling for his head they were able to pull of the Walker trade, giving them even more picks, which helped catapult them in to contention and future SB aspirations. I don't see any true playmakers on this team, other than the small flashes Brown has shown, and I don't think any players from this draft class exhibit those tendancies. I agree 100% to build around the trenches, but without good skill on the corners and at QB, WR, DB and DL positions, it is going to be very hard to win games.

With that being said, if this season turns out to be another fiasco, is Sporano put on notice, lets say two years to turn this around? How can we continue to aquire players ala the Cowboys when JJ cleaned house, without anyone to really give away? Its looking more like this is at least a 3 year process, but if we can't find a serviceable QB this year those plans may get extended as we go through another QB next year.. I hope I'm wrong and we win 7 games but this is starting to look like a true rebuilding scenario for the Phins.

I had to doublecheck the date of your post to see if you put this up 6 months ago. It's long been known this is a rebuilding scenario, regardless of what's transpired in the meantime or what the coaches and players have to say.

Yeah I guess I'm stating the obvious.. But now that Zach and Taylor are both gone, and that we didn't really address the WR position during the offseason, and that once AGAIN Ricky Williams is the big story for next season, the reality of it is starting to really sink in. Not that 1-15 didn't make it obvioius enough.

Thomas and Taylor were part of a 1-15 team too. They sure helped with our outstanding run defense last year.

Why? Why post this? We all know we will not be very good this year, I think we will be respectable at 6-10. Playmakers, i think we have 3 Ted Ginn, Ronnie Brown and Ricky if he plays like he looks right now. Next year will be the year to draft the Playmakers, offense and defense. We rebuilt the trenches this year. We are on the right path.

And as long as Parcells is the VP of operations, I think Sparano will be pretty safe. This is nothing like having Wayne go fly around the country to pick his coach and then do a 180 at season's end to get a football man in the front office. When that was done, you had to know that Cameron's days were numbered since Bill had no history with him. So as long as Wayne (or Ross) doesn't change the front office leadership again, I think Tony's got the job for a few years anyway.

I think the "Fear Of Tuna" factor itself will have players performing closer to their potentials, whatever those may be. I agree with chubbyKirstie that 6 wins is not outside the realm of possibility - especially as the season progresses, chemistry takes hold and confidence grows on the basis of being more competitive in each game.

Although not apples to apples, one can look for inspiration from the Marlins who are strongly competing after trading away their 2 "name" players for well-suited, high potential youngsters. I recognize that it's a long season compared to 16 games, but still, high-potential players, well coached, with barely a recognizable name aside from Hanley underscores that a team of unprovens, largely predicted to finish last can indeed succeed with the right roster under the right conditions.

We knew this was going to be a rebuilding season since rumors circled about the Big Tuna coming to town. We knew we had to look at drafting another QB in hopes for a future franchise quarterback. People dont expect much out of us this year because we didnt draft any big "playmakers." This is because our rebuilding process starts with the trenches.. a smart move that doesn't get much publicity. With all of our picks next year.. expect a lot of "playmaker" picks. I personally hope for at least a 4-win season. Next year, after Henne has a year under his belt and we add some playmakers through the draft.. and find some diamonds in the rough from this years, we'll be back in playoff contention.

You guys have to remember.. how much did people expect out of Jason Taylor(3rd) and Zach Thomas (5th) with their "late" round picks? I wouldn't be surprised if we find big playmakers in Jayson Foster, Henne, Ginn, Merling, and Langford.

WHY would any Dolphins "FAN" think that we wouldnt do good this year?
Anyone who thinks otherwise should try out for an analyst spot on Espn....Its hard for me to realize how you can be a fan of a team and think ill of them.. I understand feeling liek that last season because you;ve seen for yourself how poorly they perform and the injuries and series of perishable events that transpired... but why would you think this way and we havent even played a preseason game yet? this is a completely different team...maybe people feel this way to protect their feelings, and if the team performs otherwise then it makes them feel that much better...dolphins have alot of fairweather fans...althought I must admit, there hasnt been much fair weather down south either.

Last year we were 1-15 and didn't look very good at all in most games, so I'm wondering when exactly did you just have this revelation about us being a rebuilding team??

:sidelol:

I guess you forgot that JJ had an owner, JJ, with a FAT wallet and NO CAP.

If we can sniff .500 this year, this season was a success. Everyone already knows this is a painful time. But god knows it will be better than last year and give us something to build on for the next.

Were Irvin and Aikman considered sure things when they were drafted? Where were they drafted and lastly this is a team that we know nothing about.
This is a new scheme, new mindset and new roster. We do not know how any of our WR's will do.
In your post you indicated that the media was all over the cowboys and they were able to trade away a player for picks...didnt we do that with JT?

Time is of the essence with the NFL we have no idea how the current players will mesh with one another or how many will buy into the system.

till then the glass is always half full

I believe we will be better than expected simply because the coaching staff is already familiar with each other and all our players are in camp on time.

If we can avoid the injury bug and the Oline gels early then we can win more games than we will lose. Imagine if our Oline does really well and our running game is solid. Ball control offense means less points scored against us.
I am optimistic!
