Michael Thomas led the NFL in special teams tackles last season, but when he learned that wasn’t enough to break the grip the Patriots’ Matthew Slater had on the lone AFC special teams Pro Bowl slot, he told himself he wouldn’t get his hopes up again.
So when the teams were announced Tuesday night, Thomas tried to take it in stride even though the numbers say taking Slater over Thomas makes less sense this year.

Slater is just a yearly lock. Doesn't matter what he does on the field, or even if he plays. It is what it is. Pro Bowl selection feels like NBA All Star starters now.

Slater actually recognized Thomas on WEEI Boston prior to our game against them. He's very aware of the best special teamers In the league.

Free Agent in 2018, Im not 100 percent sure he is re signed. He is obviously a good ST player but offers little else on defense like Aikens.

Cody Parkey was an even bigger snub. Check average starting opposing field position for all 32 NFL teams. Then look at field goal percentage. Then look at onside kicks recovered. :)
I honestly believe parkey missed that GW against us when he was still with Cleveland on purpose

Honestly, learning that he was a big Miami Dolphins fan who even remained a fan of the team while kicking in other places? And then seeing the way he's kicked this season? Well, I won't say he missed on purpose, but his heart probably wasn't in it.

I actually think we should consider keeping Aikens instead of Thomas. For that sole role, of special teams. I think he's gotten quite a bit better over the past year or two. Last year he blocked a punt and recovered it. This year I think, maybe a fumble? Or a block?

Yeah i guess i won't go as far to say it was 100% intentional but you're right his head definitely wasn't in the right place

They may have to make that choice yes, I mean neither would break the bank per say- but its about roster spots, and what each player can bring on Sundays.

Besides the players that get a bonus for being selected for the Pro Bowl, who really gives a rat's behind about the game? It is a glorified touch football game. So many players decline to go because of injuries, playoffs, etc. so it gets watered down with second and third tier players. There is nothing to be gained or lost for participating so it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Be honest, who has actually made it a point to watch the Pro Bowl from start to finish? And how many of us see it while flipping through channels, stop for a minute and then continue on with our day.

Complaining about Pro Bowl snubs is just another way to fill the airwaves and waste bandwidth.

This is probably going to start a firestorm but Michael Thomas probably didn't get many fan votes because of him taking a knee for the National Anthem. He earned the right to play in the pro bowl but the pro bowl is a popularity contest, has been for a while now.

I didn't even consider this, you're probably right

Why would this start a firestorm? It's a legitimate possibility. Unfortunately, motives for player voting are not known.
