Interesting stats, part two: individual offense stats.

  • Ricky and Ronnie were tied for 8th in the NFL in running back YPC at 4.4. That put them ahead of such guys as Edgerrin James, LaDainian Tomlinson and Clinton Portis.

  • Marty Booker was 8th in the NFL in first down’s per reception… and FOURTH in the NFL in YPC at 17.6!

  • Chris Chambers was 8th in the NFL in passes dropped, but he was also 2nd in “passes thrown to†so that explains it a bit.

  • Chambers was 2nd overall in “passes not caughtâ€Â, but that includes uncatchable balls thrown to him. He is also consistently in the top 20 in most recieving categories.

  • Chambers was #2 overall in TD catches in the fourth quarter and #2 in td catches in the second half.

  • Neither Ricky nor Ronnie made the top 20 in stuffs or stuffs per carry.

  • Ronnie Brown was 4th overall and Ricky 12th in YPC in the second half. They were both much better as the game progressed. (Ronnie was 5.5!) Ricky and Ronnie were 5th and 6th in YPC in the fourth quarter (5.2 and 5.1)

  • Wes Welker had our only fumble inside our own 20 and Ronnie Brown had our only fumble inside the OPP 20.

I’m going to skip pointing out most of Frerotte stats, suffice it to say most were near the bottom of the NFL, except interception splits where he was mostly in the top third.

One I did find interesting is that Gus was MUCH better in a two-wide receiver set than a three or four. I can’t find how often he used that.. anyone know? It might be an awfully small sample size.

  • Oh, and Chris Chambers was the leading RUSHER among all wide receivers. J

This is getting long, sorry, but here are a few defensive stats of interest:

  • Jason Taylor led all NFL linemen in passes defensed. He was tied for 5th in sacks and was 4th in combined tackles among linemen. (2nd in solo)

  • the defensive backs had no particularly interesting stats… yeremiah bell was tied for 5th among DB’s in sacks with 3.

  • Zach! Zach was #2 in the NFL in combined tackles… in 2 less games then the #1, Vilma, who beat him by only 11. If Zach had played al 16 games, he would surely have been #1. he was also #2 in solo tackles and #2 in assists.

  • Zach was tied for first in forced fumbles with 4.

Ok, I’m done. Anyone has read all this gets a cookie.

Ill take that cookie and im sure i wont be the last its all interesting stuff. Im glad you said Zach would have been first in those categories had he started all 16 games. Good read man!

Shortbread for me. Thanks for the interesting info.

I don't think I am being a homer when I say that Zach Thomas has to have had one of the quietest dominating careers ever.

I mean the guy has got to be in the hall of fame. i look forward to that day.

I don't subscribe to the "media hates the Dolphins" theory, but I do think that Zach has been under-praised.

white chocolate macadamia cookies and some intriguing dolphins stats....sounds good to me.
