The Steelers' Troy Polamalu was on Colin Cowherd this morning and discussed his hazing experiences.

My take on this is that it's a difference between approaching this as a profession and being part of a club. Seems to me the former offers a lot more upside. Again, you can't "peer out" guys from an NFL job. You need them, so you better do what you can to make them better.

Colin was hilarious this morning. Half the things he says I don't agree with, but i appreciate his candor.

I'm not a Cowherd fan. Just caught this by accident.

What I thought was relevant was, if Polamalu is to be believed ... maybe he is, maybe he is being PR conscious ... not every team pulls this kind of hazing stuff as some on this board seem to believe.

Personally, a co-worker threating to poop on me and slap my mom would not cause me to bond with them, however a little kindness would go a long way to me respecting them, enjoying my job and giving extra effort. This whole hazing thing is counterproductive to cohesiveness in a lot of cases I suspect. Give me the steeler way any day.

If your co-worker did those things, wouldn't you report it to your boss? If you flipped out at work, went AWOL for almost a week before letting your company know what was up, do you still think you would have a job there?

Maybe, maybe not, Nublar. Sometimes it depends on the person, maybe their relationship with management, maybe how entrenched or favored (they felt) the co-worker was. Martin should have, but there also are reasons he might not have that anyone not in that situation wouldn't understand.

Probably not. I'm more of a handle it myself type of person than a tattle-tale. In HS I had a part-time job and almost got in a fist fight a few times with a coworker I couldn't stand, I never told the boss and I'm pretty sure he never knew about it. I can def. see Martin not saying anything.

Difference is you stood up and took care of it yourself. If you are unwilling(or unable?) to do it yourself, wouldn't you seek help? Would you do nothing, breakdown, run away and have your parents take charge?

It would be hard for ME to tattle period, but I've never been in that situation so I can't say for sure. The difference between me and Martin is that my job isn't special, I could get a job anywhere. You really have little say about where you are forced to work if you want to play pro football, especially before your first contract is up. If you hate your coworkers and your company and couldn't just quit and move to another 'company' it would be a tough situation. He is already getting picked on, now adding in snitching to the coach and how do you think that will play out for the rest of his time in MIA?

Yeah Nublar you say that you refuse to work in a hostile and threatening. Work environment and will not be back till the company takes steps that make you feel safe. Then when they fire you well you use them and if you have proof they will pay you dearly.

Martin is a wussy in the way he played and a wussy in the way he handled this.

Run home to mommy and daddy.

Why not go to the coaches and say this has to stop?

We aren't talking about high school though. These are professional athletes.
