STEINBACH TO BROWNS
A league source tells us that the Browns are expected to sign offensive lineman Eric Steinbach to a deal averaging $7 million per year.
Steinbach, who most recently played for the Bengals, will essentially make Steve Hutchinson money.
The four-year veteran was once of the members of the Cincy team who got busted last year. He was charged for boating while drunk.
Technically, teams can't even speak to free agents until 12:01 a.m. EST Friday. But anyone who follows the league knows that no one follows this rule.

If this is the case I don't think we will be able to afford Dielman! Sheesh that's alot of money!

wow... he does not deserve Hutchinson money, this is also a bad thing as it would likely raise Dielmans price as well, at least into the 5.5-6.5 million range. He should still be a top priority though, Dielmans got talent.

I'm not sure why people assumed Dielman would get paid much more than Steinbach... Dielman should get a similar deal.

Yep, and you know Dielmans gonna want more then that im sure. I dont see the point in breaking the bank for a guard though.

man, doesn't Cleveland also have Bentley at center too? Shaping up to be an expensive line that a guy like Adrian Peterson would have a field day behind

Bentleys injury from last year took a turn for the worse, theres a chance he might not ever play again.

I'm almost expecting that Dielman may be pricing himself out of Miami's range, and that they might concentrate on the next level of guard like Derrick Dockery, who has upside and whose immense size would seem to fit our style of offensive lineman.

I'm not sure that Muller and Cam will break the bank for any player at this time...Muller said that he wants a few players, not just 1 expensive one....I think we could be let down as we're hoping for Dielman and now Porter but it's not gonna be easy.

Ozzy rules!!

The thing that most people are failing to understand is that the cap has increased by a LARGE amount the last two years... and the contracts are going to increase by the same amount. Last year, they didn't really go up that much from previous years, but now players are beginning to realize they should be getting a piece of the pie.

I mean almost every team was under the cap this year at the beginning of free agency, some of them by tens of millions. When has that ever been the case in the past? More money available means more money going to free agents. Plus a "$7 million a year contract" in the NFL does not REALLY mean its $7million per year... the true value probably averages more like 3-5 million a year for the first few years, which is not completely unreasonable.

Absolutely insane

The Cleveland Browns are an incompetent franchise, this proves it. The Vikings are an incompetent franchise, Steve Hutchinson proves it. Whoever pays Dielman this kind of money will prove it too. If you're willing to pay a guard that hasn't even been to a Pro Bowl $7 mil. per, what is the center, the tackles, the running back and everyone else going to get paid? Contracts are not awarded in a vacuum. Present cap space isn't the only consideration. How many good, not necessarily great, players will need to be discarded in two years when the cap space disappears? Steinbach and Dielman are guards, guards! A guard is the least valuable player on offense. The best guards are rarely first-round picks, they are rarely paid premium money by astute organizations.

Chargers' GM A.J. Smith is about as good as they come. His personnel acumen goes way back to his days as a scout for the Bills during their golden era under Marv Levy and Bill Polian. He's as smart as they come, and he was smart enough to realize that Dielman isn't worth the kind of money he'll be asking for. Dielman has only been a Pro Bowl alternate once, yet he's been built up into a John Hannah, or Larry Little. At least Hutchinson could play tackle.

wow Cleveland is really trying to shape up their offense...they have LeCharles Bentley at Center, they also got a Tackle from i believe Atlanta, last year...he's really good. then they sign Steinbach....Cleveland has a lot of money to spend, it wouldnt surprise me if they got both steinbach and dielman. then drafted adrian peterson, and a QB in the 2nd round. they already have braylon edwards, so their offense would be pretty stellar. they just need......defense. and DEFENSE wins championships.

Eric Steinbach is very good and still not worth the money. LeCharles Bentley's career is probably over. Kevin Shaffer stinks. Braylon Edwards is an injury prone head case, as is Kellen Winslow Jr., but other then that, the Browns' offense is headed in the right direction.

For 7 million a year they can have him... Steinbach is a good guard, not a great one.. I think we can restructure Shelton and James and be fine a guard for another year.. the draft should be another option for some o-lineman.. people are simply getting overpaid.. im sure Mueller is seeing this and I have faith that he will not overpay for meidocre talent, as Cleveland has done the past few years..
