Steve Nash wins MVP

Congrats to him. He really turned that team around.

I still think it should have been Shaq. If for no other reason than to make the Lakers look even dumber for getting rid of him. But in all honesty look at how much Nash has to work with in Phoenix.

Nash did very well, but so did Shaq. They have both elevated their new teams to a new level. I think to vote on a player, the voters should have looked at their old teams. Dallas made the playoffs and LA did terrible. I think Shaq should have won but maybe I am a Heat Fan so maybe I am buyist :D

Good for Nash...I wanted Shaq to win it, but the right man won. Phoenix has the best record in the NBA(after not even making the playoffs in 04) and all other 4 Suns starters are having career years.

Exactly and that's my reasoning for why Shaq deserves the MVP. He put the HEat over the top. He turned the Heat (a good team before his arrival) into a great team.

I think the sports writers just wanted to give it to someone other than Shaq and the fact that guards are NEVER chosen as the MVP -Magic Johnson/Robertson not included.

I think Nash should have won. Both made their teams better but I think Nash made more of an impact on the Suns. If the Heat didn't make the trade for Shaq and stuck with the nucleus they had last year I still think their a top 4 team in the East. Without Nash I think Phoenix is a 6-8 seed at best, no where near the # 1 seed!

So they should have based it on whether they were the MVP of their previous team?

My biggest beef with Nash is that he is not complete(defense is extremely suspect), but he deserved it nonetheless..

Nash isnt even the best player on his team, Stoudamire is. How can you win the MVP when you arent even the best player on your team? Shaq gets the shaft in votes because of his size. Miami is barely a playoff team, if that without him. Phoenix has a ton of talent without Nash.

Having watched the majority of the Suns games this year, I disagree with you. Yes, Stoudamire is a damn good player, but having seen games where he was out compared to when Nash is out, its a completely different team. Amare doesn't single-handedly make a difference to this team, just look to last year for proof of that. Having watched all of the games without Nash this year they played only slightly better than last year, which isn't saying much. Nash leads this team as of now. He gels them together and makes them play as the most powerful offensive team in the league.

As for whether Nash or Shaq should have got it. Not to avoid being a homer because I am one, but I believe it could have been a co-MVP year. Both come to new teams and improve them greatly. Both teams were good before, with the addition of Nash and Shaq they became the top two teams in the league (record-wise. I will let the playoffs determine overall). The difference between the Suns of last year and the Suns of this year was the biggest overall reason for pick of Nash, IMO, though I don't necessarily agree with it. There was a reason the votes were closer this year than any ever before.

If the Shaq trade never happened, Miami is probably the 4th best team in the conference with Wade, Odom, Butler, Jones & Jones(remember, Alston walked before), etc. When that nucleus was healthy and on the ball in the final 20-30 games last year, look what they did. That nucleus turned a 26-36 team with the 9th or 10th spot into a 42-40 team who finished with the 4th seed. Of course teams like Washington and Chicago are more talented now than last year, but they still would've been able to beat out those teams, just at a more even/less dominating pace..

I think the Heat with Odom, Grant, and Butler would still take the Southeast over the Wizards. I don't think the Suns win the Pacific without Nash. That is why I think Nash is deserved of the award more then Shaq!

Yea if the Shaq trade hadnt happened but the current roster without Shaq is pretty thin. Your point is taken though. Shaq is the best post-Jordan player period, and he still comes in second when the MVP votes come out. He deserves more. Hes a better player than Nash and has led more teams deeper in the playoffs. Nash had a great year but Shaq is still the better player.
