Still not happy with Fangio

I realize that we’re getting better every week, but some of his play calls are strange why would you not blitz a rookie quarterback? Especially on the last drive they could’ve tied that game if Ramsey was not such a beast. I’m constantly hearing about how great Philipps and Chubb are with all the QB pressures. Again that’s not what I see when I’m at the game I see a rookie quarterback with plenty of time to pick us apart. We bend and didn’t break a lot today but they should’ve never been in position to drive down the field from their 4 at the end of the game.
We held them to under 300 yards and 13 points.

Has @risskybzns come back to this thread or has he still hit it and quit it?
Found him, working on his next post, sure it'll be a doozie-

This form is unbelievable. Everybody wants to put their head in the sand. I guarantee I’m a bigger, dolphin fan than anybody on here. I would like to know how many people have gone to every game for the last 15 years but being really realistic is important look at last year. They were 8-3 won one of the last six games so you asked me for specifics how about figuring out how to get a pass rush on a rookie quarterback by blitzing him. They Raiders literally had a chance to tie the game. If it wasn’t for Ramsey the D line is terrible and the two suppose studs cannot get to the quarterback. How about signing Hicks? Is that specific enough I think you’re all nuts? You’re all fans without having the ability to examine the game.

& I "guarantee" I have a date w/ 6 supermodels tonight.

p.s. If you are going to make unverifiable claims .... you should really go outlandishly big.

I have 0,0,0 problem with Vic Fangio. In fact I will call it right now. He is the best DC we've had here since Bill Arnsbarger. Instead of criticism, you better hope some team doesn't try to hire him away from us in the off season.

I don't think he has designs on being a HC again. If he did, he could have done that instead. Other than that, why would he leave?

He has, I assume, total say over the defense and major input on personnel decisions. He just spent half a season implementing his scheme for a team that has loads of talent. He is already the highest paid DC in the league.

Not sure Vic would get another chance at being a HC, and that's really the only way he'd leave I guess. Hell, he's already getting almost a HC salary here, and given that everybody seems to be looking for the next young offensive genius as their next head coach, I doubt he's going anywhere. Of all the myriad differences between Flores and McDaniel , the ability to build a staff just stands out so much to me. Night and frigging day.

I disagree that you can recover a loose ball after the whistle, immediately or otherwise. The whistle does stop play.

If you have the specific rule stating as much, I would be interested in reading it.
Yep they called it incomplete instantly, I heard the whistle and seen the refs waving their arms. The play was dead, that’s why they don’t call an incompletion when the QB gets hit from behind. Just to see if it’s a throw or a fumble. I’ve seen more then once where there was a turnover wiped out by that inadvertent whistle.

The thing is, VF is known around the league as being an innovator, who has "tweaked" his system over time to stay ahead of the curve.

Just look at how individual roles and assignments have changed since Ramsey returned.

His philosophy, which he stated before the season, is to blitz when he "wants to", not as a crutch because he has to.

Again, I think you just don't care for his philosophy.

Others have already pointed out the pressure/sack stats, as well as the fact that we are getting better, basically on a game by game basis. We are now a top ten type defense, and the arrow is pointing up.

Why do you dismiss those things out of hand?
I have noticed that the defence has been getting better for some time now.

I also noticed from the onset of the season that when we blitzed we have had a lot of success.

Now that Wilkins, Chubb, Phillips are all out there balling.... They are wrecking havoc up front without all out blitzes and I see that.

We have a lot of talent on defence... The speed with our safeties and defensive backs to send guys like Holland or Kohou after the QB

I mean I am not sure how to take the comment .... Blitz when we want to not when we have to...

If they cannot handle the Blitz... and it is really Successful... Then Blitz.... If they show that they can beat the Blitz and get big plays then it is time to dial them down and do something a little different.

Blitzing has inherent risks.

I think the thought process is why do it if it isn't necessary? Beyond that, why show it to future opponents if it isn't necessary?

This was covered in another thread. There are examples where the whistle was blown and it meant nothing. One example is the QB moves his arm forward, the ball flutters 10 yards downfield. The refs blow the whistle assuming an incomplete pass. Everyone stands around except 1 guy on defense who picks the ball up and runs for a TD. They go to replay and determine the QB had an empty hand and it is in fact a fumble. Defense gets ball at spot of recovery but no TD because some dummy ref blew a whistle. If Miami had jumped on that ball, the refs would have said it was a forward pass, but a challenge by Mikey would have given us the ball. No question in my mind.
