Tannehill's play all night wasn't spectacular and didn't win the game single-handedly, but it was pretty darn encouraging. Down 2 lineman he turned in a performance that didn't have any significant negative plays and required a 4th quarter comeback just to stay in the game. And although he didn't win the game with this throw, the deep pass to Wallace that was reasonably on target and may have actually won the game had not Newman made a game-saving tackle PI swung the field position drastically and set up the final defensive series that won the game.

But the thing that encourages me most is I saw a couple real growth plays. We saw the sack on the first play of the final 4th qtr drive and I was pretty much thinking game over after the final timeout was burnt. Not only did Tannehill make a couple nice throws there, including the 16 yard one to Matthews right after that and the amazing throw to Hartline, but he made the correct play in the face of a shaky pocket by getting rid of the ball and living to fight another day when he absolutely could not take a sack with no timeouts in FG range. This recognition was something lacking before. This happened on first down after the Hartline catch and then on third down. Some people were saying WTF, I was cheering it because while we didn't win the game on those plays, we for darn sure were about to lost it like the games before it. Again, I was a big start Moore guy entering last year, and I still think the performance of Moore would have lead to a better season last year than RT, but the 4th quarter comebacks this year are something that Moore wasn't ever good at in 2011.

As frustrating as RT's inconsistencies have been this year, he has shown two things that you need a QB prospect to show: red zone scoring potential (we're amongst the best in this) and 4th quarter comebacks/game winning drives. I have been saying it would have been silly to bench him after last game, and tonight shows why, not just because of the victory, but because he made another growth. His game wasn't earth-shattering, but I certainly don't think anyone would think he should not be playing after this game.

He's fine when he's not desperately forcing the ball out in poorly conceived plays. We need to run the ball, throw from under center, run play action passes. He is a young, growing QB. He should not be asked to put the offense on his back with his #1 receiving TE out for the year and maybe his best wide receiver now out for the year too. Our backs suck at catching out of the backfield on top of that.

He did a fine job of managing the pocket today, BTW.

I've said it all along and it's football 101. You give the kid time to throw and play to his strengths, you will see results. He has pretty damn good accuracy and skillsets for a raw position convert. If he puts in the time his ceiling really is tremendous.

I didnt ever think he should be benched. just play more behind center. you can fake a defense out better and we found out tonight that two TE's works nice!

Still need more max protect. More max protect from Sims/Egnew and go long to Wallace! But run most of your offense behind center unless your in two minute offense.

That's been the major problem. We've been asking a young QB to make two dozen really good plays a game with a terrible offensive line. We're just getting overconfident in him because he is capable of making great plays and the staff, who is used to Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers with better weapons to boot, has gotten greedy with him. If we cut the great plays we need him to make in half and let the backs and even the receivers (through screens) to carry more of the load, we can help maximize his ability.

I admit that I was worried tonight when the offense needed to step up after leading all game yet barely seeing the field, and despite not being asked to do much throughout the game he dialed in the right plays needed to tie the game and keep us in position to win.

He came through when it counted tonight. Thats what matters.

But, its obvious that if we want to win with Ryan Tannehill as our QB, it is imperative we run the ball well and play great defense. If we are placed in obvious passing situations with this OL and a QB who has no clue how to move within the pocket or avoid a rush, we are not going to be successful. Its that simple.

The recipe for success is establish a dominating rushing attack and play great defense. Mix in a few play action passes to take advantage of Wallace and we have a shot. This offense simply isnt very good and we are not going to light up many scoreboards with this kid at QB.

Yes the overuse of shotgun is still ridiculous, and I cannot forgive Sherman for this. It was terrible on the third and two AFTER the timeout in OT. But we did see Sherman roll out the extra lineman tonight and run some heavy sets, which was the right move. Even though we overused shotgun and especially empty set, overall I do think the ideas behind Sherman's gameplan tonight were solid and the absolute right moves for a team on a 4 game losing streak on a short week to boot. I just don't think his playcalls and when to do what were right, but it will never be with him.

I never thought he should be benched. The Matt Moore should start thread has all of my opinions in it about benching him.

we ran the ball for 140 yards, that makes your QB effective.
You can't ask this kid to carry the team yet.

The Matt Moore dudes were making me laugh, when Moore didn't have a single 4th Qtr win with us in MULTIPLE opportunities.

He does things that make you face palm, yet he also does things that make make you think woah. Flashes of potential, hanging just out of reach. So far a big work in progress; I wonder if it will ever click for him, and what would happen if it does.

Ya because lots of teams light up the scoreboard against the Bengals right? Your buddy Sherman is the reason we don't light up the scoreboard. Because of the int, it may have gone unnoticed but he abandoned the I formation runs that were working! He went right back to the shotgun and handcuffed the offense yet again!!!! It's time for you to "get real" about Shernan and his negative effect on this team.

I really don't think we have played great, or even that good of defense past week three. We've seen QB's from Tom Brady to Thad Lewis have no issue keeping our defense on the field over and over by their inability to get off the field through poor tackling and always having some guy open downfield beyond the first down marker. We've made positive plays (turnovers) in most games, which are why we've had close games, but the inability to get off the field in the second half of games is terrible.

Even though the QB turnovers and bad pass protection are a focal point, both the offense and defense are ranked around 20th in the league in PPG, suggesting both are responsible for mediocrity.

Some things clicked for him tonight and that was the only way we get that GW drive. Two weeks ago, that 4th quarter tying drive is killed by sacks.

He should of never even thought about being benched. Just want the Kid to finish a game by himself. I think he did fine given the time he had. Honestly if that CB didnt tackle wallace it would of been a huge bomb taken to the house! He did great. Just more games like this with game winning TD's. Wins more wins.
