I am always reading posts on here about getting people this offseason like David Carr, and Joey Harrington. Why?! The explanation always is "All they need is a change of scenery, they will flourish in Miami." Just like all the other players we tried this with right? We have helped turn around the careers of hall of famers Cade McNown, Brian Griese and AJ Feeley in recent years correct?. David Boston, Lawerence Phillips, and Dimitrius Underwood are the players marking us that superbowl team!. We need to go out and get somebody already established, or someone in the draft. Jon Kitna has shown as much bad side as good side, you guys quickly forget those days in Seattle. Im not really making any suggestions on who to bring in, because no one right now really fits in my opinion as far as veterans go. I wouldnt mind Drew Brees but then I sound like one of the unrealistic fans. (btw Id rather have Brees then Rivers, we know what we are getting for our money. Rivers never did anything except have a good game in the...SENIOR BOWL. Bill Cowher was the one all over him, and hes the same coach that stuck with Kordell Stewert, then with Tommy Maddox, only to stumble on Big Ben when Maddox went down) Lets take a realisitic approach to this and realize there is no quick fix to this. Its gonna take a couple of years to get some amazing production out of a QB if we are lucky enough to get our franchise player. No more backups

Using your logic the 49ers should have never traded for Steve Young.

I sort of mulled over this post and i think we're on the same page in some regards. To re-iterate my point from a previous thread :

"DAMMIT!!! END THIS MADNESS!!!!! WE MUST TAKE A QB IN THE FIRST ROUND, NO QUESTIONS ASKED, NO MORE DELAYS, NO MORE VETERAN FREE AGENTS PLAYING QB FOR THE FINS, NO HITS AND MISSES WITH MID ROUND PROSPECTS, JUST TAKE THE CLOSEST THING WE CAN GET TO A SURE THING AND THE FUTURE OF OUR FRANCHISE BY DRAFTING THE BEST QB AVAILABLE IN THE FIRST ROUND!!!! IT MUST END NOW!!! DRAFT QB FIRST ROUND!!!!!!!!!.................................eat smacky smores............."

Yeah with my logic we should of never signed Gus Ferotte either..DAMN IM STUPID. Im talking about the Dolphins, not the 49ers. They used to have the ability to develop those players, even though Steve Young wasn't exactly Cade McNown

Carr is good behind a decent o-line. we have that. our oline this year is solid for the pass so for the right price why not give him a chance

I see your point, but with our new coaching staff; you still think we don't have the ability to develop players now?

I think we do.

See I love when people come on here and say that Rivers had one good game, the Senior Bowl! Go back and look at the games he played against FSU, he was a monster in every game against FSU. That is the toughest team he faced every year and he always seemed to have his best games.

we need a player that is not struggleing with there team rite now .. we need a rookie and start fresh ...
but we do u need a vet to help this rookie .. and if steve mcnair is available that would be good .... wut better player than a warrior that plays with pain and the leadership he shows

GB never should have traded for Brett Favre. What a mistake that was, it set their franchise back 10 yrs.

How about going back even further. Why in the world did the Raiders ever acquire Jim Plunkett. He was constantly being booed by the Pats fans and never lived up to his draft status.

I only had to read to the point where you grouped Carr with Philips and underwood, to know your thinking is extremely flawed.

I agree and would add that not only should we use our first round pick, we should do what we must to move up and take Leinhart. He's not going to fall to us and he is, as you say, the closest thing we can get to a sure thing. I truly believe whoever gets him will have the next great franchise qb.

It's always a risk (Leaf) but you can't get any better credentials. Heisman winner, #1 pick in last years' draft who chose to stay and play his senior year (worked out OK for Peyton), already been to and won Nat'l Championship, likely to do it again, and from a team/coach that has already produced a winning NFL QB in Carson Palmer, and who most grade out as better than Palmer.

Who grades him out better that Palmer???

What about Vonnie Holiday? We puled him off the scrap heap of the worst D in the league. The teams with realy good talent evaluators/coaches do this regularly. Think about guys like Simeon Rice(sp?), he wasnt very good in Arizona and now he is one of the better ends in the league. I understand not wanting retreads but I think a big reason it hasnt worked well in the past has more to do with poor talent evaluation and coaching than the general principle.
