I just wanted to get an idea how many regulars we have around here that are either in Tampa, or near Tampa, and would be willing to try and gather at a spot in Tampa where we could gather to watch Fins games week in and week out on a big screen TV.
I've been in Tampa a few years now, and I know I've generally gone between places just searchin for whatever is convenient.
As you all know, most places do cater to the Bucs...and a lot of times you can't get the Fins on a good TV.
But, there is safety in numbers and as long as you find a host that is willing, I think we have a good chance of finding a bar that we can gather in to watch games.
The General Manager of the Green Iguana in Ybor City recently contacted me about helping him organize some Dolphins fans from FH to come to the Iguana to watch games on their big screen TV.
I loved the idea. He's a Phins fan like all of us and wants to get a following in there on Sundays. I've been to that Green Iguana plenty of times too...they have the Dollar Beer Nights on Wednesday nights where they put up table tops on the pool tables and get the hot chiquitas dancin up there...nice naughty stuff
Their food is awesome, love the black and bleu burger personally. It's also in a big draw area (Ybor...pretty famous everyone from the area should know it) and the games should generally be happening on days where we're not going to run into the kinds of troubles you usually run into at Ybor on, for instance, Friday and Saturday nights.
So far the guy is talkin about doing drink specials, like dollar beers or somethin, for Fin fans gathering inside...maybe some food or wing specials, and he was thinking we could even do merchandise raffling or something. Nothing has been settled on, it's very up in the air and we're trying to gauge what kind of traction we can get with all the Tampa Fins Fans.
Hey all the power to him if he wants to go through with that kind of stuff. Personally I would just be satisfied if we could get like 20 Fins fans in there every weekend gathered around the big screen watchin and cheerin the team together.
I went to school at Georgetown in Washington DC and I use to go to a bar called Rhinos up there, and they had a big following of Philadelphia Eagles fans, of all teams, that always gathered to that one joint to watch the Eagles games...and they all cheered together and chanted and whatnot when they scored a touchdown. I always thought that was pretty cool and I thought maybe it'd be cool if we could get together some displaced Fins fans in Tampa to do the same. There HAVE to be enough of us here.
