Last week it was Rashard Jones. Tonight let's recognize him for his steller night. I believe he had a sack but also had numerous pressures. Blew up several runs in the back field. Maybe being next to Suh will make this guy great

Mitchell is coming off 2 good seasons

He better be a stud with Suh consistently being double teamed.

He was awesome. Pushed the guard into the running back who was 4 yards in the backfield. This line is going to be unbelievable and fun to watch.

I liked the way the backup DL played in the first half. Phillips and Mosley in the middle and Fede on the end. Potential.

Fede could be better than OV soon.

And Phillips in the middle... if he decides that he wants it, could give Suh a breather without dropping the DL into a weakness.

I don't think Mitchell was a good replacement for Soliai at all, but as a complement to Suh his ability to penetrate is going to be very disruptive. I'm still worried about us being gashed in the run game though by teams that exploit this penetration to their advantage.

Can't any of the backup dline play some offensive tackle for us lol

There was a huge run against Carolina when Mitchell did just that: took himself out of his lane and out of the play. It was like a 35 yard run.

Watched that too much last year.

If he can play under control and yet still use his quickness, it will be great w. Suh there to anchor everything.

That will come down to game planning and the execution of it by out LBers

I'm gonna go ahead and throw Lamar Miller's name out there too.....he looks primed for another good season

No LB is gonna be able to take on several blockers and a ball carrier at once, which is what happens when the DT's vacate their responsibilities to hold the middle.

Agreed
Vigil and Hull had monster games as well. Basically saved the game with individual plays at the goal line.

That's not what happened on the play you're referring to.

Although I am sure we all appreciate these screenshots, this is where such things can be deceiving as the whole play needs to be taken into account, especially the path and speed of all players.

Suh and Wake completely collapse the right side of the Panthers line and no one would have a chance to make a play there. Their job is complete as they are on the backside of the play and are now responsible for containment for any cutbacks, which in watching the full play they have.

On the left side, Fede drops back into coverage, Mitchell stunts to the outside and beats Oher handily on his way Newton. The inside gap responsibilities are that of Jenkins and Sheppard. Jenkins shoots into his gap forcing Artis-Payne off guard and the reason Sheppard is being called out here is because he did not get off his block and plug his gap. Every man has a job to do and if Sheppard does his, it's a 2-4 yard gain, not a 29.

We called a pass blitz and they ran right at it. Good play call and execution by the Panthers.

IF it had been a PA pass, then we'd be talking about how exceptional an athlete Mitchell is in how he beat Oher and pressured and possibly sacked Newton on a naked bootleg.

Mitchell is a very good DT (much better than Soliai). Had a very good game and will have many more for us this season. Of note: Mitchell's sack was a result of excellent leverage and a stiff arm to the lineman to stave him off from being able to get any hands on him. Great move.

I gotta tip my hat to Matt Hazel.
I wish we could hide him on the PS, but he'll be poached within 24 hours of that.
