Miami, Tampa, New Orleans and Atlanta finalists for 2019 and 2020 Super Bowls. Story to come.

I guess Goodell approves of the renovations.

When you say Miami, you’re talking Super Bowl?

We’ll find out in a year.

South Florida is back in the mix to host the nation’s top sporting event, as the NFL on Tuesday formally invited Sun Life Stadium to bid on the 2019 and 2020 Super Bowls.

Miami’s competition?

New Orleans, Atlanta and Tampa, who have combined to host the game 16 times.

“We’re ecstatic to be back into the bidding game,” said Rodney Barreto, who chairs South Florida’s Super Bowl host committee.

Barreto’s job: to close the sale to the league. All four cities’ bids will go before the owners for a vote next May.

The news surely comes as a relief to the Dolphins, who have done most everything possible to get back into the rotation after repeated snubs by the league over the past few years.

The region has hosted 10 Super Bowls, but none since 2010. The reason: the team’s home stadium didn’t meet the league’s standards.

Not fussed if it's 2019 or 2020, but let's get one of them.................

Great if we get it then we'll have the home field advantage when we play in them :)

Have to wonder if giving up a home game this year and going to London had something to do with this, as some have speculated.

IF so, is it worth it?

They announced this yesterday and I think the first impression Miami wanted was we have a cornerstone Defensive player and a cornerstone offensive player under contract through 2020 and a newly refurbished stadium . . . . season tickets at an all time high and the area is on FIRE with football love. We are ready for another Super Bowl in South Florida.

I don't think the London stuff mattered all that much . . . It's the stadium that ultimately makes them a contender.

This deal has already been done imo. We'll get one orbthe other for sure.

And while Miami and Atlanta should be strong frontrunners because they’re either renovating an existing stadium (Dolphins) or building an entirely new one (Falcons), one of them could get shut out by a city that doesn’t even have a team yet.

The hosts won’t be chosen for another year. And between now and next May, there’s a very good chance that Los Angeles will gain at least one NFL team.

If that happens, the NFL is expected to also give Los Angeles a shot at the 2020 game.

“I am aware,” said Rodney Barreto, who chairs the South Florida Super Bowl host committee. “I was told depending on what happens in L.A. they may add them to the 2020 opportunity.”

That could hurt the Dolphins. Atlanta is spending $1.2 billion on a new Georgia Dome, with some assistance from taxpayers — something the NFL considers when granting Super Bowls.
That could mean Miami is shut out even though it has done everything the league has asked — update an aging Sun Life Stadium with new seats, club sections and a canopy to shield fans from inclement weather.

Miami has hosted 10 Super Bowls, but none since 2010 when the NFL said the Dolphins needed to update their stadium.

The Dolphins even volunteered to move this year’s home game against the New York Jets to London.

The NFL is now requiring teams to give up a home game to London within a five year span of hosting the Super Bowl.

“We are doing everything right,” Barreto said. “We’re ecstatic that Steve Ross’ investment is already paying off. We’re back in the mix.”

Barreto said he believes it’s between Miami and Atlanta to host the 2019 game.

The London stuff does go into account. It's why Ross gave up a home division game to London in hopes that Goodell would consider Miami for future SBs along with the renovations.

Never understood why fans get all excited over a superbowl coming to their favorite teams stadium.

When you live in the city superbowl week is fun, but besides that, what's the big deal?

No surprises here the NFL wants to blackmail cities based on upgrading stadiums that the NFL should be upgrading themselves.
Atlanta will definitely get the next one and maybe we get the one after since I think we have promised renovations and don't think New Orelans or Tampa Bay have recently

No. It's not.
The only Super Bowl I care for is the one we play in. South Florida does not benefit much from the Super Bowl. January/February are high months anyways due to our weather. The economic impact is negligible. If they say it is a $50 Million Dollar impact it may be right for places like Indianapolis. Who the **** wants to go to Indianapolis in winter anyways?
Down here it is much less because the influx of football fans is simply taking the hotel rooms away from snowbirds and vacationers anyways.

I think it is much more important to the fans of the Super Bowl contenders to come down here rather than going into winter **** holes like NJ or Indianapolis.

To answer the question if the home game in London made a difference? Yes. The requirements were: stadium renovations (roof was on the high priority list) and giving up a home game to London.

But how crooked this whole deal is you can see that Tampa is still considered. The stadium has no roof . It was a big issue with us. Raymond James stadium is literally unchanged from 1998 when it was opened and does not have the same standards as newer facilities. That too was a requirement for us.

I think Atlanta with a brandnew stadium is a leading candidate.
