SuperBowl Memories: Reflection on better times Jan 14,1974

Houston, Tex. -UPI- Don Shula, flush with the glow of victory, proclaimed his second Super Bowl Championship club even better than the first.

"There is no question in mind," said the Miami Dolphin Head Coach following his Dolphin's 24-7 devastation of Minnesota. "This team is better than the one a year ago, even though that one did not lose a game.

"We have a defensive unit that is going to get better each year it plays. It is still young. I knew it would be better, therefore I knew our team would be better.

"And we played last year without Bob Griese. With him in there this year I thought we would be better. I think today's performance proves that this football team can get it done."

Good post DK, and thanks for trying to brighten our spirits. What is most depressing is the fact that that was 37 years ago, and as of right now we are not even remotely close to getting back to that type of winning franchise.

After watching that team dominate the Vikings I thought the Dolphins would be unbeatable for years, little did I know it would be the last Super Bowl we won.

I was 8 years old at the time and so happy we won back to back SB's....now I am 45 and wondering when or if they will win another one before I am in a nursing home. :rolleyes2:

Things started to go south pretty quickly as Bill Arnsparger left to become the Giants head coach just a couple of days after the Super Bowl, and two months later Csonka, Kiick and Warfield signed with the WFL. Though the threesome was still committed to play one more year with the Dolphins, they were never the same...
