Damn no way we could afford that contract. Good for him. I'll hate to see him go but it's time to move on.
 
it's nice for once to be the "other" team involved in a desperate trade
 
thats the value of the contract.....he isnt gonna see all that money.....only the signing bonus and next seasons $
 
Actually we could've afforded it this year and next. It would be 3 or 4 years from now that would've sucked.

Article on the main page says 14 million in garuntees. If that is his SB, then divide that by 7 years, that is only a 2 million per year cap hit. He probably has minimum salaries for the first year, with them going up per year for the next 7. That means only about a 2.7M hit this year, and maybe 3M next year. The big problem will come if and when they want to cut/trade him. then the rest of the bonus gets moved up and put on that years cap.

It would not have been wise to sign Surtain's knees to a seven year contract.
