Lots of threads recently about T.O. recently, and I'll leave it to those other threads to discuss the merits or otherwise of signing T.O.

What a lot of those threads assume is that signing T.O. is a zero sum process, and will not affect the Dolphin's ability to address other areas in Free Agency, which in a salary cap world is obviously not the case.

I'd like to see a bit more analysis about what signing T.O. (assuming that he is good for the team) will cost in terms of what other FAs we may miss out on. It's not simply a matter of do we sign T.O. or not, it may well be do we sign T.O. or do we sign Julian Peterson or do we upgrade the OL.

More then we should logically spend! IMO!!

It won't cost much. His contract would be very incentive based which means if he falls apart (on or off the field) and we cut him there won't be a big hit.

I dont know how to make threads now since the update, so I thought id pass on the news that I was watchin' the NFL Network and it said that T.O. met with the Dolphins today, they didnt give any details but just thought id let ppl know.

You can upgrade teh Oline in the draft and start out with what we already have. A guy like mangold could start right away in my book.

Boy would I have loved to have been a fly on the wall in that meeting.

That's just your assumption. There are several teams that want T.O., and the one that wants him the most will give him more than an incentive based contract. As if T.O. would play for peanuts anyway; this whole thing started because of money.

You're South Jersey and you cheer for the Rangers?? Once the Orange and Black get healthy, the Broadway Blues will be brought back to reality.

yeah, but what if we sign TO and then other free agents don't want to come here. I'm sure there are a lot of players that don't want TO on their team, and if we get him we may lose out on them

Actually, to be a technoweenie, wouldn't the thinking of a zero-sum process be that signing Owens WOULD affect Miami's ability to address other areas?

To me, it would put all kinds of pressure on CC to stop droppin the damn ball and continue doing what he did the last 5 or 6 games. Quit the excuse thing and play ball. TO doesnt have excuses, he just plays lights out and then wants his money. He is not alone in those qualities.

Other free agents will see that Saban wants to be a champion again. Other free agents will simply do whats best for them. Thats why there free agents.:D

I think you are way wrong about this. TO is not going to settle for an incentive based contract and he won't have to because some team is going to pay what he wants.

Exactly. Why can't people see this? He's already got several teams interested. One of them is going to say, "look, we'll pay you what you want" just so that he signs with them. Granted, it will be a mistake, but a team will do it.
