is he still on the dolphins his wikipedia page says he is but on IR correct me if im wrong but i belive he was released after traning camp.

not sure I could accurately explain why, but to put him on IR we had to first release him. I know that isn't the case always with putting a guy on IR, but it was in this particular circumstance. Has something to do with preventing teams from stashing players on IR.

I can explain it since I'm the one who does his Wikipedia page. Tab Perry was waived/injured and reverted to injured reserve, where he remains to this day. You thought he was just released because the media doesn't know about the waived/injured process and they just assume it means a guy was waived. Perry was never let go by the Phins, he's still under contract and just on IR.

but under that scenario....he is acutallly waived, and could be claimed by another team. It's not the same as just putting someone on IR.

my question is, do you know what the difference is between when a player is waived/injured and then put on IR vs when they are simply put on IR? Is it simply when it is done?

You're right. I don't know what the rules are for when and what players are waived/injured prior to reverting to IR. I believe it's to prevent teams from "stashing" players on IR with minor injuries. But in the case of Perry, he had a torn ACL and they are never claimed.
